As the guardian of the safe and stable operation of the power grid, relay protection is an important guarantee for the safe and stable operation of power system in china. With China's urbanization process continues to advance, the structure of urban distribution network is becoming increasingly complex, has brought great difficulties to the relay protection configuration and setting, the setting is not reasonable, protection device does not match the hidden failure has become an important factor affecting the correct protection work, because of its strong concealment, generally difficult to be found, has become the biggest hidden dangers for the stable operation of power grid, once the fault may lead to large area blackout. In order to evaluate the state of relay protection, discover the hidden failure of relay protection, this paper presents a simulation method based on hybrid automaton theory, realizes the modeling of complex power systems using hybrid automaton theory.A hybrid automaton model set based on the finite state automaton model, further enriched it through the "state" and "change" two elements to better reflect the actual action of relay protection in electric power system, are of great significance to the discovery of hidden failures. This paper takes the city distribution station in the typical distribution line as the research object, the over-current protection, common distribution line in the direction of distance protection and zero sequence current protection is analyzed and modeling of the hybrid automaton model, and aiming at the actual 35 kV distribution lines by modeling and simulation, the configuration of relay protection is analyzed and to verify the setting, discovered the hidden failure part of the configuration setting, achieving good results.
