As one of the most important part of urban green space, urban park plays the role of maintaining biodiversity and improving the life quality of of urban residents. However, with the acceleration of urbanization, the urban biodiversity issue has attracted more and more concern among the public. We conducted an investigation of woody plants in 19 urban parks in Hohhot.Further,we analyzed the correlations between woody plant diversity and park patch area, shape index, edge density, park total area and park history. The main results are as follows:(1)Total 98 species of woody plants were recorded(including 40 native species and 58 exotic species)in these 19 parks, belonging to 56 genera and 28 families.Among of them,59 species are trees and 39 species are shrubs.Native species accounted for 41% of the total species and exotic species accounted for 59% of the total species. The majority of species are Mesozoic and arid mesozoic.(2)The diversity of woody plants within the park is positively correlated with the patch area, and negatively correlated with the patch edge density. But there is no correlation with the patch shape index.(3)On the whole, there is also a positive correlation between the diversity of all woody plants and the total floor area of the those parks, but no correlation with their architectural history or the number of green patches. The ratio of native species to exotic species has no correlation with the floor area, but has a significant positive correlation with the the age of park. The above results show that the woody plant diversity of Hohhot urban parks is affected by park area, patch area and patch edge density index, but weakly affected by the park history and other factors. The proportion of exotic species in parks built in recent years is higher than that built in early years.
