With the fiery development of the smart home industry in the past two years,the information security issue of smart home systems has become a concern.The traditional centralized management security method has the disadvantages of high performance overhead and insufficient scalability when applied to smart home systems.BlockChain(BC)technology has received much attention due to its inability to modify,decentralize and other security advantages,and it is possible to overcome the information security challenges of smart home systems.However,the classic blockchain implementation is to serve cryptocurrency,and many of its designs are not suitable for smart home applications,such as the need to consume expensive computing resources,the same limited scalability,and excessive network bandwidth overhead.And network latency and so on,so applying blockchain implementations to smart home applications will face many challenges.Based on the realization of the classic blockchain,this paper proposes a multi-layer,lightweight,and highly scalable blockchain suitable for smart home applications,and named it SH BC(Smart Home BlockChain).SH BC adopts the overall public and local private architecture.While using the public chain to make the system meet the main characteristics of the blockchain,it also uses the private chain to realize the access control of smart residential equipment.The SH BC mainly includes a local device layer and an overlay network layer.The local device layer is part of the private chain,which manages all low-resource smart home devices through a centralized manager that is responsible for establishing shared keys for communication and handling all incoming and outgoing requests.The overlay network layer is part of the public chain of the system.SH BC uses the overlay network layer to achieve decentralization and decision-making consensus.The overlay network layer nodes are organized into different clusters,and the cluster heads of each cluster are used instead of all nodes in the cluster.Manage the public chain to reduce network overhead and increase system scalability.In addition to the overall architecture,SH BC's design includes multiple optimizations for classic blockchain implementations,including lightweight consensus algorithms,distributed trust mechanisms that reduce block validation overhead,and adaptive throughput management mechanisms.and many more.In order to verify the rationality of SH BC design,this paper demonstrates that SH BC can resist many kinds of malicious attacks through qualitative theoretical analysis,and proves the performance problems of classic blockchain implementation in smart home scene through relevant simulation,and verifies that SH BC can operate normally under the resource limitation of smart home equipment.With reasonable packet overhead and time latency,SH BC is more suitable for smart homes than other scenarios.
