With the rapid development of highway network in China, the number of traffic accidents is also increasing year by year, bad weather is one of the main factors affecting road traffic safety. Thus,it is necessary to establish traffic weather monitoring service system based on pavement state sensor to provide monitoring and early warning services. However, the construction of highway meteorological monitoring system in China started relatively late.Additionally, there are few researches on the core road surface sensor, and many monitoring results have not been processed and released, whose utilization rate is low as well. Therefore, the thesis proposes a new type of embedded road surface state sensor, and builds a remote road surface condition monitoring system based on the real-time data of the sensor. The monitoring system consists of the road surface state sensor and the monitoring platform. The core capability of the embedded pavement state sensor proposed in the thesis is to distinguish the three areas of road area water, icing and snow. The sensor is mounted on the surface of the road and distinguishes between stagnant water and icing by the principle of piezoelectric resonance, and achieve a range of measurements of water and icing thickness.Through the principle of photoelectric detection, the snow cover state is identified according to the influence law of the light path change of the sensor surface area on the reflected light intensity. The thesis proposes a low-coupling separate dual-server architecture monitoring platform that utilizes the heap and cache approach to meet the needs of efficient real-time online monitoring of monitoring systems. The monitoring platform can simultaneously connect a large number of sensor devices and support online device management.Increased scalability of the monitoring system. In the research process of the thesis,a large number of experiments on principle verification and program comparison were carried out. After the system design was completed, field experiments were carried out at the installation site. The experiment proves that the pavement condition monitoring system can accurately distinguish the three states of water accumulation, icing and snow accumulation, and the correct rate of differentiation can reach more than 90%.The adaptability and operation experience of the monitoring system in the field is good, and it can be real-time and efficient through the remote interface monitoring the state of the road.
