With the development of railway toward high speed and heavy load, wheels,as one of the important parts which running under worst environment of operating vehicles, its wear is not conducive to the smooth running and safety of the train and meanwhile increases its operating costs. Therefore, research on wheel wear can provide technical support for wheel maintenance and reduce operating costs. In this paper, based on the finite element contact theory and the Archard wear model combined with ABAQUS ALE method and adaptive mesh technology, the calculation method of steady rolling wear of the wheel was established. Then the wear tests of wheel-rail specimens were carried out on MMS-2A testing machine, and the total test cycles were 10~5rpm.The samples were removed and cleaned every 10~4 rpm and weighed using an electronic balance to obtain the quality of its wear loss, the wheel wear profile was obtained by CLSM and those data was provided to the subsequent simulations. Then, based on the ALE method, the three-dimensional finite element model of wheel-rail specimens was established. The static and steady-state rolling conditions of wheel-rail contact were calculated.Based on the above-mentioned wear simulation method, the finite element model of wheel-rail wear was established by the steady-state rolling analysis results combined with the UMESHMOTION subroutine. Finally, based on the wear model, the wear law of the wheel under different slip ratio was analyzed. The test results show that the wheel contact surface is convex due to the influence of wear and plastic deformation, and the contact surface has an average wear depth of about 0.240μm per minute. The simulation results show that the FEM simulated wear profile and the experimental results are basically consistent with in the middle region of the wheel contact surface. But to the edge region, the FEM simulation results are still deviated from the experimental results because the finite element model is based on linear elastic materials. However,as the wheel rolling cycle increases, the average wear depth per minute of the wheel surface will gradually approach the test results. The simulation results show that the wear depth of the wheel is basically linear with the slip ratio between the wheel and rail. The greater the wheel-rail slip ratio, the more serious the wheel wear.
