As a natural construction material with outstanding structural performance and short growth cycle,bamboo has excellent application prospect.As a natural material,mechanical properties of bamboo could be influenced by the variety and babitat of bamboo.So,Bamboos from the sea of bamboo of Sichuan Shunan were chosen,and combining the related studies of bamboo,a large amount of experimental and theoretical investigations were carried out to study in-depth the performance of bamboo in this dissertation,and the calculation formulae of compressive bamboo columns were proposed.The main contents of this dissertation include:(1)The performance of material is one of the most important prerequisite for studying the performance of structural members,a large amount of experimental tests and investigations was conducted to study the strength of compressive parallel to grain of bamboo,strength of compressive perpendicular to grain of bamboo,tangential bending of bamboo and strength of tensive parallel to grain of bamboo,moisture content of bamboo,shrinkage of bamboo,water absorbance of bamboo.The main contents of experimental tests include the manufacture and measurement of specimens,material performance tests and analysis of the test results.The test results indicate that bamboo has great basic mechanical properties,the basic mechanical properties of different bamboos are different,and bamboo joint has influence on strength of tensive parallel to grain of bamboo.(2)The slenderness ratio has a great influence on compressive performance of bamboo.60 bamboo pipes and 32 bamboo members were used to conduct the experimental research on bamboo subjected to centric axial loads,and study the failure modes and ultimate bearing capacity of bamboo in different slenderness ratio.The main work of this study include manufacture and measurement of specimens,observation of experimental phenomena and analysis of the test results.The test results indicate that the value of slenderness ratio has great influence on ultimate bearing capacity and degree of bending of bamboo.Bamboo joint has small influence on strength of compressive parallel to grain of bamboo pipe.(3)24 bamboo members were used to conduct the experiment of bending resistence performance on bamboo,and research the failure modes and ultimate bearing capacity of bamboo in different span length and diameter at breast height.The main work of this study include manufacture and measurement of specimens,observation of experimental phenomena and analysis of the test results.The test results indicate that span length has great influence on ultimate bearing capacities of bamboo.Span length and diameter at breast height have great influence on initial stiffness of bamboo,when the span length and diameter at breast height of bamboo changed,the initial stiffness of bamboo changed exponentially.(4)Test related data was used to analyze and compare the 4 methods of calculating ultimate bearing capacities of compressive bamboo,and the new calculating method was proposed.The results of analysis indicate that the new calculating method is relative accurate and could be referenced for engineering application and research.
