Under the situation of Green Ship,Stirling engine comes under the global spotlight.In order to adapt to the trend of high-power marine Stirling engine,reducing the ships noise and cooling power consumption,heat pipe coolers are proposed in this paper to replace traditional water coolers.In this paper,an outboard heat pipe cooler was designed and the design method based on thermal resistance theory is proposed.Schmidt analysis is improved to analyze the applicability of heat pipe cooler for marine Stirling engine.Taking P40 engine as an example,the model of heat pipe cooler is built.Then,numerical simulation of steady flow and oscillating flow are carried out for a single heat pipe cooler to analyze heat dissipation status and effect.The results of these two numerical simulation methods are compared.Finally,the influence of rotational speed and seawater flow and heat pipe length are discussed on the heat transfer performance and cooling performance.The research results in this paper show that:(1)It's feasible to adopt heat pipe cooler in Marine heat engine.The performance of heat pipe cooler is better than water cooler.Heat pipe cooler has better performance in the region of middle rotational speed of Stirling engine.(2)Numerical simulation of oscillating flow is suitable to analyze periodic heat transfer rule and heat flux of heat pipe cooler.Numerical simulation of steady flow is suitable to do qualitative analysis and calculate power and efficiency.(3)The rotational speed and the length of the heat pipe evaporation section have a great influence on the performance of heat pipe cooler,however,seawater flow rate and the length of the heat pipe condensation section have little effect.All in all,the design method and analysis theory of heat pipe coolers for marine Stirling engine is feasible.
