Due to the overall increasing of global cargoes to be containerized,liner container shipping is growing fast,global container throughput has nearly doubled after one decade.However,the limited berth resources have been difficult to meet the demand for global containerized cargo.Port congestion and berth idleness have occurred frequently,which have reduced the port operator's operational management level and service competitiveness.In the shipping market,the port operator and liner shipping companies are the two main players,and the interests between them are mutually influential.How to coordinate the operational decisions of the two has become an important solution to achieve win-win.At present,the research on liner shipping optimization mainly focuses on ship scheduling,sailing speed optimization and the other aspects.There are few studies on changing the fixed berth price to balance the ship arrival time distributions.Therefore,the joint planning research of ship scheduling,sailing speed optimization and berth pricing is very meaningful.I hope this paper could be helpful to better use berth pricing policies to relieve port congestion and guide ship scheduling.This paper studies a joint planning problem considering ship scheduling,sailing speed optimization and berth pricing.Different from the fixed berth charge strategy independent on different periods of time,we consider time-dependent berth pricing strategies,which can be used to affect the distribution of ship arrival times.Firstly,based on the characteristic of our proposed problem,a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model is developed.Then,we design the solution process of our model,based on the characteristic of the mathematic model.Finally,we collect the data on ship schedules from certain global liner shipping companies including Maersk,APL,to design two numerical experiments.Among them,we proposed two time-dependent berth pricing strategies,they are staircase and continuous strategies,which are based on the history data of the ship arrival time distributions.Based on the optimal solution of our proposed model,a framework is presented to obtain the optimal design of time-dependent berth pricing strategies from port operators'point of view.Numerical experiments are carried out to account for the effectiveness of our model and solution method.
