Ship resistance estimation is an essential part in the ship 'design process.Ship designers usually need to estimate the ship's resistance in the design stage for main scale demonstration,power selection of main engine,propeller matching and so on.As the energy conservation and emission reduction efforts of the shipping industry continue to increasing,various mandatory regulations on the energy efficiency level of ship construction and operation have emerged,made higher requirements for the energy efficiency of ships.Under this background,it is necessary to consider the influence of wind and waves on ship resistance at the initial design stage.This paper aims at the rapid and complete estimation of ship resistance in the initial design stage.First of all,three empirical formulas are used to estimate the calm water resistance of the target ship and the suitable method is selected,then a numerical simulation of calm water resistance is performed using STAR-CCM+,the results are compared with the model test data and theoretical formula to verify the reliability and accuracy,and then the results are compared with the empirical formula and the shortcomings and error sources of the empirical formula are analyzed.Then,based on the STAWAVE2 method and the numerical wave tank,the wave added resistance of ships sailing in regular head waves is calculated,the calculation results of the two methods agree well in the short-wave and long-wave regions.Finally,combining the empirical formulas of calm water resistance,wave added resistance and air resistance,the estimation model of the ship's total resistance is established,and the calculation program is written using MATLAB.The resistance performance of a 30000DWT bulk carrier under typical sea conditions is studied.The results show that the total resistance estimation model established in this paper can estimate the resistance of a ship rapidly at the initial design stage,and considering the influence of wind and waves on the resistance,which makes the resistance estimation more complete and effective.It is meaningful for the demonstration of ship parameters,the selection of main engine power,the matching of propellers and the evaluation of EEDI,etc.
