Research On The History And The Conservation Of "Chinese Style" Architecture In Cheeloo University

The "Chinization" of Christian architectures and the "Chinese-style" architectures in Christian universities are the concrete manifestation of the "Indigenization" of modern Christianity in China at the architectural level.On the basis of Western functional layouts and technologtechnologies,Christian architectures imitate the roof form of official buildings in northern China or regional dwellings.At the same time,it is mixed with the cognition and imagination of Western missionaries and Chinese craftsmen on traditional Eastern and Western architectural cultures,which paves the way and promotes the later exploration and development of Chinese national architectures.Cheeloo University is one of the earliest Christian universities in modern China,which originated from the Tengchow College founded by Calvin Wilson Mateer in Dengzhou in 1864.From the establishment of Tengchow College to the basic completion of the main campus of Jinan Cheeloo University in 1924,the evolution of its "Chinese-style"architectures can be summarized into three periods:initial stage,development stage and mature stage.The existing academic achievements are only limited to the fuzzy description of the architectural history of Cheeloo University and the analysis and research on the characteristics of single buildings or buildings in a single stage of Cheeloo University,without forming an integrity,systematic architectures research framework,lacking the integrated thinking of evolution and connection between the "Chinese-style" architectures of Cheeloo University in different periods.Therefore,the evolution and interpretation of"Chinese-style" architectures in Cheeloo University have extremely high academic value.On the basis of summarizing the spread of Christianity in China,the historical research of Christian University and Cheeloo University,this paper is combined with regional architectures researches in Dengzhou(Penglai),Qingzhou,Weifang,Jinan cities that are related to Cheeloo University in some historical points.The research framework of architectural history of Cheeloo University is constructed in the complete regional historical space,and the historical context of "Chinese-style" architectures of Cheeloo University is combed,and specific research details about Cheeloo University are enriched.The thesis is specifically divided into eight chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research background,research purpose and research significance of this topic.It defines the specific object and scope of the research,summarizes the research status and shortcomings of "Chinese-style" architectures in Cheeloo University at home and abroad.Finally,it summarizes the research content,research methods and research framework of the paper.The second chapter integrates and sorts out the overall historical environment and background of the origin and evolution of"Chinese-style" architectures in Cheeloo University,and generally describes the spread of modern Christianity and the origin and development of Christian universities.The third chapter sorts out the architectural history of Cheeloo University and divides the evolution of"Chinese-style" architectures of Cheeloo University in stages,integrating the evolution of"Chinese-style" architectures of Cheeloo University into initial stage,the development stage and mature stage.And the specific division basis is discussed.The fourth chapter summarizes and analyzes the specific characteristics of different buildings and group buildings.The fifth chapter summarizes and analyzes the specific evolution characteristics of the "Chinese-style" architectures of Cheeloo University in the three periods from the two aspects of external construction performance and internal historical trend.The sixth chapter is case study,which makes a comparative analysis between Cheeloo University and University of Nanking and Yenching University that have deep-rooted relationships with Cheeloo University on the evolution level of "Chinese-style" architectures,and summarizes the similarities and differences among those universities.Chapter seven evaluates the value of "Chinese-style" architectural heritage of Cheeloo University,formulates protection principles according to its damaged status and puts forward specific protection and repair schemes.Finally,Chapter eight is the research conclusion.
