Double involute gears is a new type of gear which combines the advantages of involute gears and double circular arc gears. It is composed of two involutes and one arc envelope transition curve. The bending and contact strength and bifurcation-chaos in ideal operating conditions are focused on the current research. The actual working conditions in this approach are ignored, and the coupling model of lubrication and dynamic behaviors for double involute gears is established based on the theory of gear system dynamics, load sharing, and elastohydrodynamic lubrication to investigate the coupling properties. The main research and innovation in this paper are as follows:(1)The formulas of contact line, curvature radius, rolling speed, and sliding speed are derived based on the principles of gear connection, and a relatively complete gear mesh model is established.Compared with double involute gears and involute gears, the effects of tooth waist order parameters on meshing characteristics are investigated.(2)According to the gear mesh model, the mixed elastohydrodynamic lubrication model is established based on the load sharing and elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory. The comparison method is used to investagate the difference of lubrication characteristics between double involute gears and involute gears in meshing process, and the effects of profile parameters and operating conditions on lubrication characteristics in the steady-state conditions are investagated.(3)The accurate mesh model of double involute gears is established based on the parametric modeling theory, which lays a foundation for the finite element analysis. The united simulation method by Hypermesh and Abaqus is used to calculate the comprehensive elastic deformation and the normal contact force. And the meshing stiffness is calculated based on the calculation formula. The correctness of the calculation method is verified by comparing with the literature.(4)A dynamic model of eight-degree-of-freedom(8-DOF)for double involute gears is established based on the theory of gear system dynamics.Furthermore, combined with the dynamic model and the mixed elastohydrodynamic lubrication model,a tribo-dynamics model is established based on interdisciplinarity theory. The decoupling method is used to solve the problem. The dynamic meshing force solved by dynamic model is used in the lubrication analysis, while the friction coefficientobtained by the lubrication analysis is used in the dynamics calculation again. The iteration loop will stop until the dynamic meshing force meets the convergence conditions. The relationship between tribology and dynamics is deeply analyzed to provide theoretical basis for tribology design and the optimization of tooth profile parameter.
