Research On Moral Judgment And Behavioral Preference Of Self-driving Cars Under The Influence Of Social Norms

Self-driving cars are the typical products of the era of artificial intelligence.With the development of science and technology,an era of self-driving cars will eventually come.However,the popularization of any technology will be questioned and discussed by all sectors of society,and self-driving cars are no exception.In addition to technical problems,what needs to be solved at present is the construction of the ethical rule system of self-driving cars.Previous studies have focused on the public’s expected behavior of self-driving cars in a moral conflict accident.This study adopts questionnaire survey,to explore the impact of social situation factors(social norms)for public moral judgment of self-driving cars in social moral situation.And comparing with human driver’s moral judgment,thus to obtain the public trust and behavioral preference of self-driving cars.This paper mainly draws the following conclusions:(1)Social norms affect people’s moral judgment: the public has a higher moral evaluation of self-driving cars selected following to social norms.(2)Social norms weaken the public’s moral orientation: under the influence of social norms,the public pays more attention to whether the actual behavior of self-driving cars is consistent with social norms,and doesn’t care whether the social norms are moral or utilitarian.(3)Public’s moral judgment standards for different moral subjects are not stable: compared with human beings,the public’s moral evaluation of self-driving cars’ inconsistent behavior with social norms is more severe.(4)Public’s negative attitude towards robots plays a moderating role: the more fearful the public is of robots,the lower moral evaluation of social norms and inconsistent behaviors of self-driving cars.(5)Public deviation on behavioral preference of self-driving cars with different programs: when it comes to the overall trust and behavioral preference(ride,buy and recommend)of different self-driving cars in the future,the public prefers self-driving cars with personalized distress procedures.This research through exploring the social factors affect people’s moral judgment of self-driving cars,as well as investigating the public behavioral preference.It provides a reference for the construction of the moral rule system of self-driving cars,and provides a theoretical basis for the marketing and popularization of self-driving cars in the future.
