In Xinjiang,the snowfall is generally heavy in winter.The abundant snow sources together with undulating terrain provide fundamental conditions for wind blowing snow,which have caused severe impacts on the traffic and transport sectors each year.As the booming development of transport industry in Xinjiang,for further prevention of snow disaster on the highway and security of traffic safety,in recent year the local transport authority has strengthened the researches on wind blowing snow,focusing on the disaster-causing mechanism,disaster types,its impacts on the road,and the corresponding control measures.The researchers were getting more and more familiar with the issues,especially have found that apart from the natural factors such as snow and wind,the highway itself was also one of the principal causes for the wind blowing snow disaster along with the research going further deep.A principle of “resolve the current problems and eliminate the root causes” for the control of the wind blowing snow disaster has been proposed,based on that to continuously strengthen the causing mechanism and consistently improve the control technology for minimizing the impacts.This article,based on the survey and design of construction project of Barkol-Mory Highway of Beijing-Urumqi Expressway(G7),and theoretical researches on the forming mechanism,movement pattern and snow damage type of snowdrift,a survey on the landform,climate conditions,wind speed,prevailing wind direction and snowfall of two typical snow disaster areas in Xinjiang,Karamay-Tacheng Highway in Tacheng Prefecture and Barkol-Mory Highway of G7(303 Provincial Highway)in Barkol County,was carried out.Then the disaster-causing mechanism of snowdrift on the two highways was comprehensively analyzed.Combined with the anti-snowstorm engineering on Karamay-Tacheng Highway and its practical effect,various professional snowstorm preventive measures were explored for the survey and design of the construction project of Barkol-Mory Highway and relevant safeguard procedures were proposed,for reducing the risk of snowdrift disasters in the later stage of the project.
