The ecological adaptation strategy, response function, biomass allocation pattern and physiological activity of the plant should be realized through a series of closely related traits. The plant can control the construction of different functional traits by regulating its own resource trade-off mechanism. The relationship between leaf shape and vein density is a common feature of plant ecology strategy. The leaves of the plant play a major role in supporting the leaves and transporting the main channels of moisture and photosynthetic products,as well as mechanical tissues capable of bearing external and internal stresses.Soil moisture can significantly affect the morphological structure and physiological and biochemical characteristics of plant leaves. The morphological characteristics and physiological characteristics of plant leaves reflect the growth strategy and resource utilization of plants, which is the result of long-term interaction between plants and environment.Soil moisture had a significant effect on leaf size, vein density, midrib trait, leaf water potential, leaf hydraulic conductivity and water use efficiency. The relationship between leaf size, leaf formation and adaptation mechanism and the relationship between leaf and leaf characteristics were studied. But the relationship among leaf size, vein density, and leaf hydraulic traits were studied.Plant interaction between the various traits of the mechanism, the use of plants and the distribution process and plant adaptation to the environment strategy of comprehensive analysis and understanding is not enough depth.Based on the theory of plant leaf traits, vein traits and water physiological characteristics, the leaf size of the Salix matsudana was studied in this paper. The results showed that the allostatic growth between leaf area and vein density, midrib traits and leaf water potential, vein traits and, leaf vein and water use efficiency were used to systematically describe the water response strategies of plant resource allocation and then enhance the mechanism of plant adaptability. The results show:?1?With the decrease of soil moisture, the height and canopy of S.matsudana decreased gradually;the specific leaf area, leaf area, midrib diameter of S.decreased gradually, while the leaf thickness, midrib density and vein density increased gradually;the chlorophyll,Gs,Ci of S.decreased gradually, while the Tleaf,Pn,Tr,PAR and VPD increased gradually;the leaf water potential of S.matsudana decreased gradually, while the leaf hydraulic conductance and water use efficiency increased gradually;?2?In the three soil moisture gradients, the leaf index decreased with the decrease of soil moisture; There was a significant negative correlation between vein density and leaf area in the three gradients, and there was significant difference between the different rates?p<0.05?;The allometric growth slope of plot?was-1.9794,which was significantly less than-1?p<0.05?,the growth rate of leaf density was higher than that of leaf area;the allometric growth slope of plots II and III was-0.7801 and-0.616,which was significantly more than-1?p<0.05?,and the growth rate of leaf density was lower than that of leaf area;?3?The relationship between leaf water potential and midrib traits varied with the soil moisture:there was a highly significant negative correlation between the leaf water potential and midrib density at the spot?and spot??p<0.01?,whereas the correlation reached a significant level at the spot??p<0.05?;and there was a significant positive correlation between the leaf water potential and midrib diameter?p<0.05?;The relationship between leaf hydraulic conductance and vein density traits varied with the soil moisture:there was a highly significant positive correlation between the leaf hydraulic conductance and vein density at the all spots;there was a highly significant negative correlation between the leaf hydraulic conductance and midrib diameter at the spot?and spot??p<0.01?,whereas the correlation reached a significant level at the spot??p<0.05?;The correlation between vein density and WUE was positive in all three plots, but the relationship varied along the soil moisture plots gradient;there was a highly significant positive correlation?p<0.01?between the vein density and WUE at plot?and?,whereas the correlation only reached a significant level?p<0.05?at plot?;The correlation coefficient between vein density and WUE is significant smaller than 1 at plot??p<0.05?,while the correlation coefficient is significant greater than 1 at plot?and??p<0.05?.The relationship between plant leaf size and leaf density, vein traits and leaf hydraulic traits was affected by soil water content.Due to the different soil water content, the leaf index, leaf area, leaf density, midrib density, midrib diameter,Water potential, leaf hydraulic conductivity and water use efficiency have a significant impact. The difference of plant leaf structure and functional traits leads to the inevitable selection of the best income growth pattern, which is the inevitable result of plant niche differentiation and compensation.
