The trial was conducted to investigate effects of grape seed procyanidins(GSP)on production performance,relative weight of organs,antioxidant capacity,immune function,apparent digestibility and gastrointestinal enzyme activity in weaned piglets.A total of 160 Duroc x Landrace x Yorkshine piglets weaned at 28 days of age were randomly assigned to one of the four treatment groups with 4 replicate pens per group and 10 piglets per pen.A group was control group,fed a basal corn-soybean meal diet,BD.B group was fed a BD+100mg/kg GSP.C group was fed a BD+100mg/kg GSP.D group was fed a BD+150mg/kg GSP.The trial lasted for 28 days.Piglets were weighed on an empty stomach on the morning of the first,14th,28th days.Blood samples of 2 piglets which were randomly picked out were collected on the 14th and 28th day for the measurement of antioxidant indices and immune parameters.Fresh excreta on each house was collected on the morning of the 27th,28th days for the measurement of MD,TP,EE,Ca and P with AIA.On the 28th day,a piglet from each repeat was vivisected.Intact liver,kidney and pancreatic tissues were taken out and weighed.Chyme in stomach,duodenum and ileum was taken out for the detection of activity of protease,lipase,amylase and chymotrypsin.(result)Piglets offered diets supplemented with GSP got lower(P<0.05)diarrhea rate during the trial than those fed basal diet.The liver and pancreas weight of pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 or 150 mg/kg increased significantly.The kidney weight of pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at a dose of 100 mg/kg increased significantly.Piglets offered diets supplemented with GSP produced stronger(P<0.05)serum Total-anti-Oxidant capacity(T-AOC)than those fed basal diet,and the serum T-AOC level was enhanced by dietary supplementation with GSP in a dose-dependent manner in piglets.Pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg produced stronger(P<0.05).Superoxide Dismutase(SOD)activities and Glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px),pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 mg/kg produced higher(P<0.05)serum Catalase(CAT),pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP produced lower(P<0.05)serum Malondialdehyde(MDA)content.On the 14th day,pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 or 150 mg/kg generated higher(P<0.05)serum Immunoglobulin G(IgG),Immunoglobulin M(IgM),Complement 3(C3)and Interleukin-2(IL-2)concentrations.Pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg generated higher(P<0.05)serum C3.The apparent digestibility of Ca,P,crude protein and crude fat of pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at a dose of 100 mg/kg increased(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of pepsase of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at a dose of 100 mg/kg increased(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of trypsase of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP increased(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of trypsase in duodenum of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at a dose of 100 mg/kg increased(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of trypsase in ileum of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg fell(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of lipase in stomach and duodenum of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP increased(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of lipase in ileum of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg increased(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of amylase in the stomach and ileum of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP at doses of 100 mg/kg increased(P<0.05)significantly.The activity of amylase in duodenum of the pigs offered diets supplemented with GSP increased(P<0.05)significantly.In conclusion,administration of 100 mg/kg GSP in weaned piglets diet had beneficial effects on antioxidant abilities and immune responses suggested in weaned piglets.It is also helpful for the growth of organs,the secretion of enzyme in digestive tract,the increase of apparent digestibility of nutrients such as Ca,P,crude protein.It has significant importance on relieving weaning stress of piglets and reducing diarrhea rate.
