The Pericyma cruegeri Butler belongs to Lepidoptera and Noctuidae,it has become a serious leaf-eating pests of Delonix reqia(Boj)Raf in recent years.Due to lack of effective means of prevention and control, the insect is prone to disaster and it will seriously destroy the landscape. We studied the sex pheromone communication system of the Pericyma cruegeri Butler and its Predators attractant by means of gas chromatography(GC),gas chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry(GC-MS),electroan tennogram(EAG),gas chromatography – electro antennographic detection(GC-EAD)and wind tunnel for the first time.Through this study,we aimed to find out the pheromone in Pericyma cruegeri Butler and its Predators attractant, and quest for a new method to control the pests. The main study results were the follows:1.Biological Characteristics of Pericyma cruegeri ButlerThe adult emergence and reproduction behavior of P.cruegeri were studied at(25 ±1)? and 75%-80% RH under 14L: 10 D photo period. The results showed that the emergence rate of adults was 93.20%,and emergence period was 25 days, the daily emergence peak occurred during 3-5 h into scotophase. The ratio of female to male was 1.13: 1 and the female emerging before the male. The adults became sexual maturity on the 2nd day after emergence,Adult moths did not mate on the 1st day after emergence or photophase. In their whole life, both male and female mated only once, the mating peak occurred at 4h into scotophase and the mating behavior was influenced by female age.The oviposition behavior of female occuerred in 5-8 h after entering scotophase which the agg quantities accounted for 56.27% of the total, the eggs produced by unmated females do not hatch.2.Sex pheromone of Pericyma cruegeri ButlerThe female sex pheromone gland extracts of Pericyma cruegeri Butler were examined by GC-EAD and GC-MS analysis.Three compounds were indentified: Z9-14:OH,Z9-14:AC and Z9E12-14:AC,Which have the same retention time and characterized ion fragments compared with the standard compounds Z9-14:OH,Z9-14:AC and Z9E12-14:AC.Further GC-EAD tests showed that the male moth antennae generated obvious response to those three compounds. The ratio of three kinds of pheromone compounds in the female moth gland are 2:5:3.3.Tachinids-natural enemiesTachinids is the major parasitoids of Pericyma cruegeri Butler.By using gas chromatography / mass spectrometry(GC/MS)combined with analysis technology,We found there were 12 compounds in the surface volatiles of the larvae. The main ingredient are Pinene,Alkane Compounds. There are 7 substances that can cause the antennae response in the GC-EAD tests: 1R-.alpha.-Pinene(5.15 min),1S-.alpha.-Pinene(8.42 min),Nonaldehyde(16.34 min),Decanal(17.03 min),n-tridecane(22.34 min),n-heptadecane(22.72 min)and n-hentriacontane(25.46 min). The volatiles of the body surface of the larvae also had a strong attracting effect to the Tachinids in a “Y” –tube olfactometer.
