Combining Yellow Card And Trap Crops To Manage Greenhouse Whitefly(Trialeurodes Vaporariorum Westwood )(Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae )

In order to satisfy people's increasing demand,modern agriculture has become an inexorable trend of China's agricultural development.The greenhouse whitefly,Trialeurodes vaporariorum(Westwood),is one of the most important pests on verious vegetables in protecting environments(greenhouses and plastic houses).It has a wide host range,and it not only feeds the plants,but also transmitting virus,causing viral diseases.At present,chemical pesticides are mainly used to control whiteflies.However,irrational use of chemical control caused the high resistance of the greenhouse whitefly to various chemical insecticides.Therefore,other measures for controlling greenhouse whitefly should be vigorously needed.Trap crops have been widely used as an rational new methods for management of whiteflies and many other pests.Previous studies have shown that eggplant(var Kuai Yuan Qie or KYQ)has great potential as a trap crop to manage greenhouse whitefly.In this paper,first we proved the trapping effects of eggplant as a trap crop to greenhouse whitefly in the greenhouses,and then we used three different kinds of trapping treatments: tomato,eggplant + yellow card(non-stick)and eggplant to trap the whiteflies.According to the results of combing yellow card and trap crops to trap greenhouse whitefly in greenhouses,we designed the experiments with transparent cages and wind tunnel for two kinds of different yellow cards(Yellow card 1:using transparent plastic film cover the two surfaces;Yellow card 2: non-sticky yellow card)test the trapping effect of whitefly,to study trapping differences of two kinds of yellow card with greenhouse whitefly.The main findings are as follows:1.In greenhouse experiment(5m × 8m),when the ratio of tomato to eggplant was 5: 3,we found that eggplant had a high trapping effect of the greenhouse whitefly,and the percentage of whitefly adults on single eggplant is 16.46 %.So,eggplant can trap the whitefly adults from tomato.2.In plastic house experiment(8m × 8m),when the ratio of the main plants tomato to the different traps was 36: 5,The percentage of whitefly adults on different traps showed the significant difference in the early investigation.Among them,when eggplant + yellow cardwas used as the trap,the trapping effect was the highest,eggplant was in middle,and tomato was the lowest.The percentage of whitefly adults on main plants tomato exhibited the opposite tendency,and it was reduced one by one when using tomato,eggplant,and eggplant+ yellow card.With eggplant + yellow card and eggplant as traps,the percentage of whitefly adult on trap crop was significantly higher than that on the main plants tomato.The results indicated that eggplant + yellow card and eggplant as trap had the ability of trapping whiteflies in the greenhouse,and the number of adults of whitefly adults on the main plant tomato can be reduced.3.In transparent cage and wind tunnel experiments,a combination of two kinds of yellow cards and eggplant as trap crops had synergism to trap greenhouse whitefly,and the synergistic effect of yellow card 2 was significant higher than yellow card 1.However,in wind tunnel experiment,the trapping rate of the two kinds of yellow cards was slightly lower than in the transparent cages.
