The yellow peach moth,Conogethes punctiferalis?Guenée??Lepidoptera:Crambidae?,is a polyphagous insect pest destructive to many crops. In recent years, due to the adjustments of crop systems, changes of climate factors and the lack of effective pest management, the problems caused by C.punctiferalis is increasingly serious in many areas in China, causing serious yield loss to many fruits, forest trees, cash crops, and field crops, especially on maize. In this research, some ecological statistics and demographic parameters of C.punctiferalis reared on chestnut?Castanea mollissima Blume?,maize?Zea mays L.?,artifitial diet, sunflower?Helianthus annuus L.?,hawthorn?Crataegus pinnatifida Bunge?and apple?Malus domestica Miller?were collected. Then the raw data were analyzed and compared by using the age-stage,two-sex life table in order to clarify the effects of food factors on the growth and reproduction of the pest,to explore the intrinsic mechanism of the pest,to provide a reliable theoretical basis for monitoring, early surveillance and warning and scientific management of the pest population, meanwhile,to provide some important basic data for the further study of other ecological characteristics of the pest. The development rates, survival rates and fecundities etc.of C.punctiferalis reared on chestnut, maize, artificial diet, sunflower, hawthorn and apple were collected at 25±1°C,70±5%and 15:9?L:D?h.The mean fecundities of C.punctiferalis were 282.3,217.7,134.45,105.5,70.5 and 19.2 eggs/female on chestnut, maize, artificial diet, sunflower, hawthorn and apple, respectively;the preadult survival rates?Sa?were 0.912,0.925,0.917,0.553,0.762 and0.744 on chestnut, maize, artificial diet, sunflower, hawthorn and apple, respectively. The intrinsic rates of increase?r?were 0.1359 d-1,0.1326 d-1,0.1050 d-1,0.0807 d-1,0.0811 d-1and 0.0448 d-11 on chestnut, maize, sunflower, hawthorn and apple, respectively. The finite rates of increase???were 1.1456 d-1 1.1442 d-1,1.1107 d-1,1.0841 d-1,1.0844 d-1 and1.0458 d-11 on chestnut, maize, artificial diet, sunflower, hawthorn, and apple, respectively. The mean generation times?T?were 36.06 d,35.21 d,39.74 d,42.26 d,40.93 d and 48.11 d on chestnut, maize, artificial diet, sunflower, hawthorn, and apple, respectively. The computer projection based on the age-stage,two-sex life table revealed the stage structure and variability of population growth of C.punctiferalis.Our results demonstrated that chestnut and maize are the most suitable host plants for Co.punctiferalis, followed by artificial diet;and sunflower, hawthorn and apple rank the last three ones in turn. When reared on maize,C.punctiferalis had shorter developmental durations, higher survival rate, larger pupa weight and higher fecundity, which explained the serious harm of C.punctiferalis on maize in the past 20 years in theory.
