Dioryctria rubella Hampson is a major forest pest and widely occurred in China. It is a kind of trunk borer whose activity is covert and can hardly be discovered. But it has caused severe damage to various kinds of pinewood.Once plants are attacked by Dioryctria rubella Hampson, their branches and leaves will be withered and yellow and tips of branches will be curved, withered and crown will be in the shape of broom. The existence of Dioryctria rubella Hampson does harm to pinewood in China. In order to have a study of the biology and ecology characteristic of Dioryctria rubella Hampson and find out effective methods to control it and wipe it out,the author has made a series of observations and experiments among the young growth of Chinese Pine in the experimental nursery in Wanggezhuang Village,Weishanzhuang Town,Daxing District,Beijing. This study has also included indoor breeding,so as to have a more detailed analysis of the biology and ecology characteristic of Dioryctria rubella Hampson in Beijing area and have a comparison of the trapping effect of pheromone and palette.(1)From biology perspective, the author has a brief understanding of the life history, living habit and morphological characteristics of Dioryctria rubella Hampson in the experimental field through indoor breeding and investigation in the forest.(2)From ecology perspective, the author employs aggregation index and aggression equation to study the distribution of Dioryctria rubella Hampson and finds out Dioryctria rubella Hampson in the experimental field is aggregated in distribution. In analyzing the reasons, the study finds out that both living habits and local environment contribute to the distribution of Dioryctria rubella Hampson in the experimental field.(3)In the perspective of control and prevention, this study adopts pheromone and palette to trap and kill Dioryctria rubella Hampson so as to test the feasibility of the two methods. The result shows that pheromone is effective and palette doesn't work well.
