Sunflower broomrape(Orobanche cumana Wallr.)is a kind of parasitic seed plant and also is a quarantined plant in China.Its parasitism on sunflower roots will lead to a serious decline in yield and quality of sunflower.In this study,the physiological races of sunflower broomrape collected from 10 different locations in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia were identified under laboratory conditions by using the international differential hosts.Meanwhile,the laboratory parasitic system of tomato-sunflower broomrape was established and optimized.The results we obtained are listed as follows:1.The results of physiological races identification on sunflower broomrape in different locations showed that the race type of broomrape in Touhao village,Wuchuan,Hohhot,Inner Mongolia was characterized as race E;the race type of Regiment 188,Xinjiang Construction Corps Agriculture-ten Division was characterized as race F;and the physiological races of broomrape in Ulatai of Baotou,ShiBatai in Hohhot,Jushui Town and Hongqitan Village in Wulanchabu,Liangnan Village in Xilinguole and Kuiboyuan,Wuyuan and Shuanghe Town,Linhe District in Bayannuer were characterized as race G.2.By using the petri-dish parasitic system,we found that sunflower broomrape could parasitize not only on sunflower,but also on tobacco and tomato.The Orobanche cernua Loefl.collected from tomato plot could also parasitize on sunflower,while the parasitic rate on sunflower was higher than that on tomato host.3.The parasitic system of tomato-sunflower broomrape was established and optimized under laboratory conditions.The best parasitize system on tomato was to pre-germinate sunflower seeds in a petri dish,and then place six three-week-old tomato seedlings in each petri dish.On average,more than 40 sunflower broomrapes could parasitize on tomato roots of each dish.The establishment of this parasitic system would be able to lay a foundation for studying the interaction mechanism between sunflower and broomrape.
