Spinach is popular among consumers because of its rich vitamins,protein,dietary fiber and mineral nutrients such as calcium,iron and magnesium.It is cultivated in various ways and can be supplied annually.Spinach is widely planted in various countries,and has become one of the important vegetables for our country to earn foreign exchange.However,the basic research on spinach germplasm resources in China is relatively weak,which seriously restricts the development of spinach industry.In this study,a series of spinach germplasm resources were collected and preserved,and the fruit morphological characteristics,morphological diversity,VC and soluble sugar content and SOD,POD and CAT activities of 42 spinach germplasm resources were studied,so as to make better use of existing resources and cultivate new spinach varieties that meet the needs of producers and consumers.The study aimed to provide theoretical basis for the study of spinach germplasm resources and the breeding of excellent varieties.?1?Up to now,42 spinach germplasm resources have been collected and stored in the library and the varieties have been preserved.?2?Between two taxonomic varieties,there were significant differences in the macro-morphology of spinach fruit.?3?Different characters showed different degrees of diversity among different spinach varieties,and the coefficient of variation was between 8.80%and 59.42%.Among them,the variation coefficient was the largest for leaf fissure,and the smallest for leaf color.Through cluster analysis,42 spinach germplasm can be divided into two groups,and can be further divided into five groups.The different types of spinach germplasm resources were defined to provide reference for further molecular identification,genetic relationship research and variety breeding of spinach germplasm resources.?4?The contents of vitamin C and soluble sugar in 42 spinach germplasm resources were determined.Six spinach germplasm resources including B26,B53,B38,GII9A00091,B43 and GII9A00078 were screened out.The six germplasms had higher nutritional quality and could be used as original materials for spinach quality breeding.?5?The SOD,POD and CAT activities of 42 spinach germplasm resources were determined.The SOD activities of different spinach varieties were 295.918527.027 U/g.POD activity ranged from 10 to 410 u/?g·min?.The CAT activity was 0.3401.768 mg/?g.min?,which provided theoretical basis for the selection and research on stress resistance of spinach varieties.?6?Spinach varieties with excellent comprehensive characters,such as G?9A00078,G?9A00148,G?9A00091,B38,B19,B43,B26 and B29,were screened out,which can be used as the core germplasm for the breeding of improved spinach varieties.
