Appropriate body condition can improve milk production and reproductive capacity of dairy cows, and prevent many kinds of diseases.Body condition score has become one of the most important links in daily management of dairy cows.Aiming at the subjectivity of artificial body condition scoring methods and the problems in automatic body condition scoring methods based on digital image processing such as manual labeling and lack of information body condition information, this paper proposes a method of body condition assessment for dairy cows based on three-dimensional surface fitting. The model construction and method verification can be roughly divided into the following steps:(1)This paper introduces the manual body ciondition score methods and the the manual body ciondition score methods and the automatic body ciondition score methods. The basic concepts and the shortcomings of of the current methods are summarized.(2)A body condition score method for dairy cows based on three-dimensional surface fitting, which was carried out on the three-dimensional maps of cow's back established by the depth image.Indicators related to the body condition are obtained indirectly by three-dimensional surface fitting, which reduces the influence of human marking on the accuracy of the results.(3)Based on the comparisons of segmentation common image segmentation algorithms achieved, this paper choose the the active contour model based on sparse field level set and region. The related theory and the concrete realization of the algorithm are emphasized.(4)The concrete realization method of body condition assessment for dairy cows based on three-dimensional surface fitting. The verification results prove that this method can provide guidance for the practical application of automatic body condition score in dairy cows raising.
