Mulan Paddock,as a former royal hunting house, has experienced many changes in its forest ecological environment, from prosperity to great destruction, until the rapid recovery after the founding of new China. The forest ecological changes during this period have brought us many lessons and experiences.Based on the changes of forest ecological environment in Mulan paddock, this study adopted the following methods:1.Collecting data and drawing(Qianlong one arrow double deer map,Baijun map, sentry deer map)to analyze the data of forest coverage, tree height,DBH,etc.,reflecting the forest ecological situation of Mulan paddock in Qing Dynasty;2.Questionnaire survey was conducted to the representative population,Analysis of the changes of forest ecology in modern and modern Mulan paddock;3.Through the analysis of painting and data collection in the previous Qing Dynasty, according to the range of the original Qing Dynasty Mulan paddock, find the corresponding site or the similar original ecological forest environment, and carry out the a species diversity control test to form the ancient and modern comparison. To explore the advantages and disadvantages of the forest "near natural management" used in Mulan paddock,in order to explore the ecological changes and future development direction of Mulan paddock forest. After the above research, investigation and test, the main research results are as follows:In the middle and late Qing Dynasty, deer, wolf, tiger, bear, raccoon dog and other large mammals still had a certain number, with a certain scale and rich species diversity;natural coniferous species such as Chinese pine,Larix principis rupprechtii,spruce,etc.;broad-leaved species such as Mongolian oak, white birch, etc Birch)is rich in diversity, the average DBH range is 50-70cm,the canopy density is about 0.4,the tree height range is 12-15m,and the forest coverage rate is nearly 70%.On the contrary, rodents and small carnivores account for the majority, while large mammals are hard to find.At present, the forest ecological situation of Mulan paddock has been greatly improved, and natural large-diameter trees are very rare.According to the questionnaire survey, the local tree height range is 5-10m,the average diameter class is 30-40cm,the forest coverage rate is about 50-60%,and the shrub coverage is about 0.5,which shows that the forest ecology of Mulan paddock has been significantly improved in the past 20-30 years. However, the unreasonable age structure of Mulan paddock still exists. The proportion of mature forest and near mature forest is relatively low,and the proportion of middle and young forest is more than 60%.Compared with the traditional forest management concepts of clear cutting, thinning and selective cutting, the "near natural management" model that can produce greater economic benefits is highly recognized. After "near natural management",the proportion of large-diameter trees in the arbor layer increases, and the tree species composition tends to be stable, which is conducive to the multiple benefits of the forest;in the shrub layer, the ? species diversity index increases in varying degrees, which indicates that "near natural management" has a certain improvement on the situation of the forest shrub layer in the region;in the herb layer, the a species diversity index does not increase or decrease significantly“Near natural management has little significance to the improvement of forest herbaceous layer in this area;in the regeneration layer of seedlings, the species and quantity of seedlings have been significantly reduced, which shows that excessive "human intervention"weakens the potential of natural regeneration of seedlings and is not conducive to the long-term development of forest ecological environment.
