Colored leaves Hosta is widely used in various landscape gardens due to its unique ornamental value and certain shade-resistant ability,forming a beautiful ground cover.However,in practical application,it is found that too high or too low light intensity is not conducive to the growth and the display of ornamental properties.Lack of nutrition often leads to stunted growth of hosta plantlets,while excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer will turn the colored leaves green.However,different varieties of hosta have different needs for light and nutrition.In order to solve the problems existing in the application of hosta in gardens and give full play to their excellent ornamental characteristics,it is necessary to have a deep understanding of the requirements and adaptability of different varieties of hosta to environmental conditions.This topic to select four kinds of typical colored Hosta ‘Minute Man',Hosta ‘June',Hosta ‘Before Christmas Eve' and Hosta ‘Knock Out' as the experimental materials.The effects of different light intensity and spraying water-soluble fertilizers with different N,P and K ratios on their growth and ornamental characteristics were studied.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)Through the determination of physiological and morphological indexes of four species of Hosta under different light intensity levels and the observation of their growth and ornamental characters,it can be seen that: the growth of four species of Hosta was blocked under the full sunlight environment,the leaves became yellow,gradually withered and fell off,and the photosynthetic ability was reduced;Under the condition that the light intensity was 10% of the total sunshine intensity,the non-green parts of the leaves of four species of hosta plantlet gradually turned green and lost their unique ornamental value.Comparatively speaking,the better light intensity of four kinds of hosta with colorful leaves is 25% or 50% of the total sunshine intensity.(2)Through the determination of physiological indexes and observation of ornamental characteristics of four species of hosta plantlet under different fertilization treatments,it can be seen that the quick-effect water-soluble fertilizer with nitrogen,phosphorus and potassium ratio of 20-10-20 and concentration of 500 ppm can significantly improve the plant nutrient level,enhance photosynthetic capacity and extend the green period.
