Papilio polytes L.(Lepidoptera: Papilionida)is one of the important pests of citrus plants. Its larvae mainly feed on the leaves of Rutaceae plants. This pest widely distributed in China from the two river basins to Taiwan,Hainan and other provinces.Under natural conditions,it can occur at 6 generations every year, generations overlap, and overwinter with pupa.In this paper, the types of antennae sensilla of adult P.polytes were observed and analyzed by scanning electron microscope, the electroantennography(EAG)and T-tube olfactory apparatus were used to study the antennal potential and behavior response of this insect to the volatiles of citrus plants, and the influence of host plant volatiles on the oviposition behavior of P.polytes was tested, the reproductive behavior rhythm of P.polytes was observed and analyzed, which provided the basis for exploring the olfactory behavior mechanism to the host plant odor and the green prevention and control of P.polytes.The main results were as follows.According to the observation of scanning electron microscope, there are 6 kinds of sensilla in the antenna of P.polytes, which are sensilla trichodea, sensilla basiconica, sensilla coeloconica, sensilla chaetica, sensilla squamiformia and B?hm bristles.among them, there are two types of the sensilla trichodea(sensilla trichodea?,sensilla trichodea?),Trichoid sensillum ? surface with microscopic pores, and female antennae trichoid sensillum ?is significantly more than male.Electroantennography(EAG)test results showed that,P.polytes had EAG response to volatiles of 12 host plants with different concentrations,in general, the response intensity of the female was higher than that of the male, and the response of the one-day adult was higher than the five-day old adult. The order of response values for different genders and ages was that of one-day old female >five-day old female > one-day old male > five-day old male.Among them, the female of P.polytes all showed a dose-dependent EAG response to the tested host plant odor,in the range of 0.01?g to 1000?g,the EAG response increased with the increase of the test amount,When the test quantity is 100?g~1000?g,especially the response to leaf alcohol, nonanal, linalool and citral was strong. At the same time, the EAG response of males to the tested host odor chemicals was significantly lower than that of females, with the highest values all being less than 0.2mv.The olfactory behavior test of the T-tube olfactory apparatus showed that, volatile substances of 7 host plants with high EAG reaction values of P.polytes, such as leaf alcohol,linalool,citral,nonanal,guaiacol,(+)-limonene,(-)-limonene,when the test amount was 100?g,only linalool had a significant attractant effect on the female(P<0.05),and nonanal, citral, leaf alcohol had no significant attractant effect on the female insect(P>0.05),while guaiacol had a significant repellent effect on the female(P<0.05);at the same time, linalool, guaiacol and citral had significant attractant effects on male insects(P<0.05),the attractant effects of nonanal and leaf alcohol on male insects were not significant, and the repellent effects of(+)-limonene and(-)-limonene on male insects were not significant(P >0.05).The experiment showed that when the test amount was 100?g,linalool could induce females, guaiacol could induce males and repellent females, citral could induce males. The selectivity of citrus volatiles from host plants to oviposition of P.polytes was found, among four citrus plant volatetiles, including linalool, which has obviously EAG response and attractive effect, and leaf alcohol, nonanal, citral which have not significant attractive effect in previous experiments, only linalool and leaf alcohol had significant oviposition attraction effect on P.polytes(P<0.05),nonanal citral and a mixture of the four volatiles also had a certain oviposition attraction effect, but the difference was not significant(P>0.05).Research have shown that linalool and leaf alcohol can induce P.polytes to oviposition. The reproductive behavior rhythm of the nestroom was observed, the courtship behavior of P.polytes can occur from 7:00 to 19:00,among which, there were two peaks of calling from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00,and the frequency of calling was the highest from 13:00 to 14:00(P<0.05).Mating behavior of P.polytes starts from 12:00,mainly in the period from 14:00-16:00,and then gradually decreases after 17:00.Oviposition behavior can occur from 7:00 to 19:00,but mainly from 9:00 to 16:00,and the oviposition amount is the highest from 10:00 to 11:00,which is significantly different from that from 7:00 to 9:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00(P<0.05).The results showed that the reproductive behavior of P.polytes had a certain daily rhythm.
