Objective To summarize the clinical characteristics of patients with psoriasis and coronary artery disease(CAD).Methods We retrospectively recruited 15 CAD patients with psoriasis and 105 without psoriasis in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. The number of well-established risk factors for CAD,coronary angiographic properties and blood biochemistry index were compared. The psoriasis area and severity index(PASI)score of these 15 patients were recorded at the first time of hospitalization and the end of follow-up,guided by experienced dermatologist. All psoriasis patients were followed up.Results Compared with CAD patients without psoriasis, those with psoriasis had a younger age(55.13± 10.90 versus 66.45± 10.46 years,P<0.01],higher levels of total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),and triglycerides(TG)(P<0.05).A higher rate of severe coronary lesions,i.e.multi-vessel and diffuse lesions, was also observed in CAD patients with psoriasis.During a mean follow-up of 16.33 months,3 patients had recurrence angina and two of them were re-hospitalized for second percutaneous coronary intervention treatment. An improvement of psoriasis conditions were achieved following statin use, showing substantially reduced psoriasis area and severity index(PASI)score at the end of follow-up when compared with the initial value(P = 0.01).Conclusions Psoriasis patients with CAD had an earlier symptom onset and often had severe lesions of the coronary artery and poor prognosis,so we should treat it as early as possible to delay the progress of CAD in order to improve the prognosis. Moreover, statin treatment may ameliorate the bad condition of psoriasis itself as well.
