| Background:Diabetes mellitus is a ground of metabolic disorders in which there are high blood glucose levels over a prolonged period.Impaired glucose regulation,a transitional state from normoglycemia to diabetes,is an intermediate metabolic state between normal glucose tolerance and diabetes, which is a high risk factor for developing diabetes.Impaired Glucose Regulation can be treated through anti-diabetic medication and interventions, such as diet and lifestyle changes,to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes and vascular complications. It was reported that lifestyle intervention was effective in the management ofimpaired glucose regulation.Especially regular exercise plays a vital role in improving insulin sensitivity and blood glucose control. However, poor adherence to behaviors recommended in lifestyle leads to poor control of blood glucose levels.Recently,wechat-pedometer is widely used for daily lifestyle activities and the follow-up of patients with diseases.Nevertheless, the effects of wechat-pedometer on blood glucose and lipids levels in people with impaired glucose regulation has not been fully investigated. Objective:This study aims to investigate personalized physical activity programs through wechat-pedometer intervention, which are suitable for people with impaired glucose regulation. This program is further applied to assess the effects on lifestyle changes, blood glucose,HbAlc,and blood lipids among subjects with impaired glucose regulation. Methods:The study subjects were recruited at Endocrine&Metabolism Clinic and Physical Examination Center of Yantai Affiliated Hospital of Binzhou Medical University in China. After the screening test, male or female subjects with impaired glucose regulation were enrolled in this study.A total of 382 subjects were randomly assigned to the test group and comparator group. We evaluated the basic information of the subjects and established health files(including sex, age, weight, height, waist circumference,BMI,diet, exercise, smoking, drinking, fasting blood-glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose, blood lipids, glycosylated hemoglobin). The subjects in control group were given regular health education, regular health education salon, telephone follow-up and check-up.In addition to the regular health education, the subjects in test group were taught how to use wechat-pedometer that was downloaded by our study team.Physical activity program was applied to the subjects of test group. We evaluated the effects on lifestyle changes,BMI,blood glucose,HbAlc,and blood lipids of all subjects after 3-month and 9-month interventions. The changes of physical activity,BMI,and lifestyle were assessed by the professional study team.Blood samples were harvested and examined by medical staff.Results:(1)Lifestyle:Compared with control group, daily steps and the amount of subjects with exercise frequency(>5 times/week)were significantly increased at 3-month and 9-month.In addition, the amount of food intake(>300g)of test group were significantly decreased, and that of regular diet were significantly increased.(2)BMI,blood glucose,HbAlc and blood lipids:There were no statistically significant differences between the test and control groups in BMI levels at 3-month and 9-month after the intervention of wechat-pedometer.However,the BMI levels of test group showed a tendency to decrease.Compared with the control group, fasting glucose levels of test group were significantly decreased at 3-month after wechat-pedometer intervention.Furthermore, the levels of fasting glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose, and HbAlc were significantly decrease at 9-month.Similarly,the LDL levels were significantly lower than that of control group at 3-month after wechat-pedometer intervention. The levels of LDL,TG,and TC in test group were significantly decreased at 9-month,and HDL levels were significantly increased in comparison with that of control group. Conclusion:These findings suggested that wechat-pedometer intervention could enhance the physical exercise behavior of people with impaired glucose regulation, improve the lifestyle, and decrease blood glucose, blood lipids, and HbAlc levels. Therefore, the application of wechat-pedometer to people with glucose impaired regulation could be effective and worthy of further promotion. |
