ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of parental voice on the occurrence of emergence agitation, postoperative pain, and the awakening score of children with general anesthesia during recovery period.MethodsIn this study,211 children with general anesthesia surgery were used as study subjects, the group of children who had surgery every morning or afternoon was randomly assigned to the intervention group(98 cases)or the control group(113 cases).Collected the basic information of two groups of children and completed the recording of the parent's voice in the intervention group before surgery, both groups received regular care,on this basis, the intervention group were given parental voice immediately during extubation until the child was completely awake and was sent out of the Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit. The assessment tools of awake quality had Riker sedation-agitation scale,FLACC pain score and Steward awakening score, they were used to evaluate the recovery quality such as emergence agitation, pain and the degree of recovery at the time of extubation and leaving the Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit. The main statistical analysis had descriptive analysis,t test,chi-square test and repeated measurement analysis via SPSS 22.0.Results1.Demographic and clinical information for children with general anesthesia:211 children were investigated, and the age range was 1 to 6 years old, with an average age of(2.90±1.56)years old.122 cases were boys, accounting for 57.8%;93 were single children, accounting for 44.1%;80.6%of children were taken care by parents;more children undergo orthopedics surgery(87 cases,41.2%),general surgery(62 cases,29.4%),and urology surgery(38 cases,18.0%).There was no significant difference in general demographic and clinical information between the intervention group and the control group(P>0.05).The two groups were balanced and comparable.2.The effect of playing parental voice on the agitation of children. The t-test results showed that there was no significant difference in Riker Agitation-sedation Scale between the intervention group and the control group(t=-0.93,P=0.35),but the agitation score of the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group(t=-6.25,P=0.001)when children were sent out of PACU.The results of repeated-measures analysis of variance showed that the Riker sedation-agitation scale in both groups were statistically significant in terms of time effects, intergroup effects, and interactions between time and groups(F time = 1102.25,Fgroups = 22.13,F interaction= 15.43,all P<0.001).3.The effect of playing parental voice on pain of children. The t-test results showed that there was no statistical difference in FLACC pain score between the intervention group and the control group at the time of extubation(t=-0.23,P=0.82),but the pain score of the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(t=-2.78,P=0.006)when children were sent out of PACU.Repeated-measures analysis of variance showed that the FLACC pain scores in both groups had significant time-based main effects(Ftime=4372.85,P<0.001).The pain scores of the two groups showed a significant decrease along with the observation time points. While the pain scores of the two groups were not significant between groups(Fgroups= 1.85,P = 0.18)and the time and interaction effects between groups(Finteraction = 1.51,P = 0.22).4.The effect of playing parental voice on Children's recovery degree. The t-test results showed that the Steward Recovery Score(t = 2.46,P = 0.02)and airway patency score(t = 2.33,P = 0.02)were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group, while there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of recovery and limb mobility scores(P>0.05).Conclusion1.During general anesthesia recovery, playing parental voice can reduce emergence agitation in children and improve the degree of recovery, but relieving pain has not been verified.2.The effectiveness of playing parental voice for improving recovery quality is obvious and simple, and it is worthy of clinical promotion.
