Objective:Retrospectively comparing nutritional status, efficacy, and safety of concurrent chemoradiotherapy combined with or without Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy for esophageal carcinoma. Methods:From January 2014 to December 2017,a total of 105 esophageal carcinoma patients who treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy were collected.18 patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy combined with Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy(study group).Another 87 patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy(control group).Retrospectively Analysis the change of nutritional status, the proportion of parenteral nutrition, treatment completion, the efficacy and safety of concurrent chemoradiotherapy for both groups. Results:For the patients of the control group,nutrition-related indicators such as body weight,BMI,albumin, prealbumin, hemoglobin after treatment were significantly decreased,as compared with the study group(P<0.05).The proportion of three-cycle simultaneous chemotherapy in the study group was more than that in the control group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference in the radiotherapy completion between the two groups(P>0.05).The use of parenteral nutrition in the study group during the treatment period was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was most significant atthe 4th week of treatment(P<0.05).The study group with equal or greater than grade 3 hematologic adverse reactions were lower than the control group(P<0.05).The acute radiation esophagitis and acute gastrointestinal reaction were no statistical differences(P>0.05).The efficacy of concurrent chemoradiotherapy was similar in both groups. Conclusion : Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy can reduce the nutritional status loss of esophageal cancer patients during chemoradiotherapy, improve nutritional status and treatment tolerance, reduce toxicity, but we need to enroll more patients to confirm these results.
