Objective:A total of 70 patients were explored to diagnose the value of Heparin-binding protein(HBP)for sepsis identification and severity. Then compared this with white blood cell(WBC)counts, serum C-reactive protein(CRP),serum procalcitonin(PCT),PLT and TBIL.Methods:70 sepsis were enrolled for this subjects: 27 cases with septic shock;23 with sepsis and 20 with severe sepsis. At the same time,32 patients with non-sepsis infection group and 40 healthy adults with outpatient examination were selected. The white blood cells(WBC),platelets(PLT),C-reactive protein(CRP),procalcitonin(PCT),total bilirubin(T.BIL)and HBP were measured and statistically analyzed.Results:1)Whole blood WBC values were statistical differences between all sepsis subgroups and healthy adults(P<0.05).The WBC level between patients with sepsis and severe sepsis as well as patients with severe sepsis and septic shock were statistical different(P<0.05),but there was no difference between sepsis and septic shock, nor between non-sepsis infection and healthy adults(P>0.05).2)The CRP level were significant differences between healthy adults and the patient groups(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in CRP level among 3 different sepsis subgroups and there was also no point in CRP level when compared patients in different subgroups of sepsis with non-sepsis infections(P>0.05).3)Differences in serum PCT between patients with non-sepsis infection and patients with different subgroups of sepsis, between healthy adults and different subgroups of sepsis,as well as between healthy adults and non-sepsis infections were significance(P<0.05);The PCT level showed no significant difference among 3 different subgroups of sepsis(P> 0.05).4)Between healthy adults and patients in each sepsis subgroup, between healthy adults and non-sepsis infected patients, between non-sepsis infections and sepsis subgroups, between sepsis and severe sepsis, between sepsis and sepsis with shock the plasma HBP levels were statistically different(P<0.05);However,there was no significant difference in HBP concentration between patients with severe sepsis and sepsis with shock,(P>0.05).5)When the cut-off value of PCT was 22.46 ng/m L,the area under the ROC curve for the diagnosis of sepsis was 0.899,the sensitivity was 0.957,the specificity was 0.708;The area under the ROC curve for the diagnosis of sepsis was 0.980,the sensitivity was 0.913,and the specificity was 0.972 while the cut-off value for HBP was 19.66 ng/m L,the diagnostic efficacy of HBP combined with PCT is better than the single index.6)There were positive correlation between WBC and T.BIL,CRP,PCT,HBP;PLT was negatively correlated with T.BIL,CRP,PCT and HBP;CRP,PCT,and HBP were positively correlated between the three.Conclusion:1)HBP has better diagnostic value than WBC,CRP,and PCT in the diagnosis of sepsis, and it can be used as one of the indicators for the diagnosis and evaluation of the disease.2)In the diagnosis of sepsis, the diagnostic efficacy of HBP combined with PCT is better than the single index.
