ObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris, and to explore the correlation between syndrome differentiation of TCM and changes of serum IL-4,IL-2 levels.MethodsA total of 120 patients with psoriasis vulgaris in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria were divided into blood-heat syndrome patients(n=40),blood-dryness patients(n=40)and blood stagnation patients(n=40)according to syndrome differentiation of TCM,and each syndrome type was randomly divided into two groups: the treatment group was given TCM decoction according to syndrome types twice daily for 300 ml every time, while the control group took tripterygium glycosides three time per day for 20 mg every time, the course was lasted for 8 weeks for both groups. The patient’s skin lesion area and severity index(PASSI score),changes of four diagnosis methods of TCM before and after treatment were observed. The adverse reactions after treatment, and recurrence rate during follow-up were recorded. The clinical efficacy, safety and recurrence condition of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris were evaluated. The levels of serum IL-2,IL-4 were detected by ELSIA method before and after treatment.ResultsThe baseline dataThere were no significant differences in baseline data such as age,sex and disease courses in three syndrome patients before treatment(P>0.05).Clinical efficacy evaluationAfter treatment, the two groups in the three syndrome differentiation patients had significant clinical efficacy, and the treatment group was superior to the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the PASI scores of both groups were decreased to varying degrees(P<0.05 or P<0.01),and the treatment group was better than the control group(P<0.05).The two groups had decreased levels of IL-2 and increased levels of IL-4 in the three syndrome differentiation patients after treatment(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Safety evaluationThe treatment group had lower adverse reaction and recurrence rate than the control group, and there were statistically significant differences(P<0.05).ConclusionsThe syndrome differentiation of TCM has better clinical efficacy, lower adverse reactions, and reduced recurrence rate, and it can relieve the clinical symptoms of psoriasis vulgaris and alleviate the skin lesion area and severity. The syndrome differentiation can regulate the levels of serum cytokines(IL-2,IL-4)in patients with psoriasis vulgaris. |
