Objective: To explore the role and significance of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin(NGAL)in the evaluation of primary Sj?gren's syndrome(pSS)patients' condition by detecting the level of NGAL and analyzing the correlations among NGAL,clinical features and laboratory indexes. Methods: This study included 37 patients with p SS and 30 healthy control, which was matched for age and gender.Clinical symptoms, signs and laboratory indexes of pSS patients were recorded. The latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric method was used to detect the expression of NGAL in serum and urine of two groups. The difference of NGAL levels between two groups was compared, and the correlations among NGAL,clinical features and laboratory indexes were analyzed.Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS software version 24.0.Results: The NGAL levels of serum and urine in pSS group were significantly higher than the control group(P<0.05).The expression level of NGAL in serum and urine were not significantly different between the renal lesion group and the non-renal lesion group. The expression of serum NGAL in pSS patients was positively correlated with CRP level, and the expression of urine NGAL in pSS patients was positively correlated with serum creatinine. Conclusions: The levels of NGAL in serum and urine were increased in pSS patients, and the expression of serum NGAL in pSS patients was positively correlated with CRP level,The results suggest that the innate immune system of pSS may be activated by neutrophil mediation, and this process may be involved in the pathogenesis of pSS.There was no diagnostic value in judging renal damage only by serum and urine NGAL levels for pSSpatients,The renal injury could be reflected by the levels of urine NGAL and serum creatinine in pSS.
