Objective: Cardiovascular disease(CVD)is common in end stage renal failure(ESRD)patients and predicts poor patient outcomes. With the development of examinational technology, ultrasonography offers a simpler and less costly alternative. The intima-media thickness(IMT)of carotid artery has been evaluated by B-mode ultrasonography to detect vascular calcification and predict CVD.We measured carotid IMT and to investigate the association relevant factors of Vascular calcification in ESRD Patients. Methods: Eighty-three ESRD patients and fifty normal renal function were included.Using B-mode ultrasonography,we examined carotid artery intima-media thickness(IMT)of the carotid artery of fifty-two ESRD patients and analysis the association between IMT and clinical parameters including age, systolic blood pressure(SBP),serum phosphorus(P),serum calcium(Ca),serum creatinine(Cr),blood urea nitrogen(Urea),blood glucose(GLU),glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c),total cholesterol(TCH),HDL cholesterol(TCH),intact parathyroid hormone(PTH)and C-reactive protein(CRP).Results: The carotid artery IMT of ESRD patients increased with The advanced age, greater blood pressure, greater serum phosphate, glycated hemoglobin and C-reactive protein(P<0.05).Conclusion: These results show that the carotid artery IMT in ESRD without dialysis increase faster, and the greater serum phosphate in ESRD patients account for it.
