Non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)is one of the most common malignancies. And about half of the patients with NSCLC develop brain metastasis during and/or after treatment.Brain metastases seriously affect the quality of life and shorten survival time.In order to predict the prognosis of patients with brain metastases after radiotherapy, many scholars have proposed different prognostic evaluation systems.Nowadays, the treatment modalities for brain metastases mainly includes: whole brain radiotherapy(WBRT),stereotactic radiotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and even supportive care.Radiation therapy is still one of the most important treatment modality. With the rapid development of radiotherapy technique and the targeted therapies, many studies showed that the combination of these two treatment modalities could increase the local control of brain metastasis and improve the survival time, but the best combination has not yet been determined. This article reviewed the prognostic indices and update of radiotherapy for patients with brain metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer.
