ObjectiveThe relationship between lower extremity venous insufficiency and iliac vein stenosis were investigated.Methods65 patients with lower extremity venous insufficiency were collected from The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from Jun 2015 to Sep 2017.Lower extremity venous function of all patients was estimated by Villalta scores and the severity of varicosity was estimated by CEAP Classification,Pelvic CT venography was performed via great saphenous vein approach at knee joint to assess the severity of iliac vein stenosis. The relationship between lower extremity venous insufficiency and iliac vein stenosis were investigated.ResultsPelvic CTV showed 55 patients with left iliac vein stenosis,2 patients with right iliac vein stenosis,6 patients with compression of bilateral iliac vein and 2 patients with inferior vena cava compression in total 65 patients. In 55 patients with left iliac vein stenosis,36 patients' s left iliac vein stenosis rate was>50%and 19 patients' s left iliac vein stenosis rate was<50%.The mean of left lower limb Villalta score of patients with stenosis rate>50%was 9.39 ± 4.58 and the median of CEPA score was 4.The mean of left lower limb Villalta score of patients with left iliac vein stenosis rate<50%was 5.52±3.55 and the median of CEPA score was 3.The mean of right lower limb Villalta score of patients with left iliac vein stenosis rate>50%was 4.83±3.64,and the median of CEPA score was 4.The mean of right lower limb Villalta score of patients with left iliac vein stenosis rate<50%was 4.37±4.91 and the median of CEPA score was 3.To compare Villalta and CEPA score of lower limbs between patients with left iliac stenosis>50%with<50%,the results showed that left lower limb's Villalta and CEPA score were significantly different between patients with left iliac stenosis>50%and<50%(p=0.005,p=0.001 respectively).Right lower limb's Villalta score were no different between patients with left iliac stenosis>50%and<50%,however right lower limb's CEPA score were statistical different between patients with left iliac stenosis>50%and<50%(p=0.033).ConclusionThe stenosis of the left iliac vein is related to the venous insufficiency of the left lower extremity veins and may also be the cause of venous insufficiency in the right lower extremity.
