Objective:To investigate the the effects of bone metabolism markers osteocalcin(OC)andβ-CTX on glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:The height,weight of 112 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(47 male patients and 65 postmenopausal women)were measured and their body mass index(BMI)were calculated.The serum osteocalcin,β-CTX,fasting blood glucose(FBG),fasting insulin(FINS),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c),triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein(HDL-C)and low density lipoprotein(LDL-C)of these patients were determined,and then,HOMA-insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR),HOMA-insulin secretion index(HOMA-β)were calculated.The correlation between osteocalcin,β-CTX and glucose and lipid metabolism was analyzed.Results:(1)In postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus,osteocalcin were negatively correlated with FBG,FINS,HbA1 c,HOMA-IR,BMI,TG,while positively correlated with HOMA-β;β-CTX was negatively correlated with FBG,FINS,HbA1 c,HOMA-IR,BMI,TG,was positively correlated with HDL-C.(2)In male patients withtype 2 diabetes mellitus,osteocalcin were negatively correlated with HbA1 c,TC,LDL-C,while positively correlated with HOMA-β;β-CTX was negatively correlated with TC,HDL-C,LDL-C,was positively correlated with HOMA-β.(3)After adjustment for grouping factors,osteocalcin were negatively correlated with FBG,FINS,HbA1 c,HOMA-IR,BMI,TG,TC,LDL-C,while positively correlated with HOMA-β;β-CTX was negatively correlated with FBG,HbA1 c,HOMA-IR,BMI,TG in type 2 diabetes mellitus.Conclusion:Bone metabolism plays an important role in the progression of type 2 diabetes mellitus.It can regulate glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism by secreting osteocalcin,β-CTX.
