Study On The Core Knowledge System Of Grief Counseling Training For Nurse

Objective: to construct the core knowledge system and provide a theoretical basis as well as practical guidance for Chinese nursing staff in grief counseling training courses,to better accompany the bereaved for helping them to get through the blue days.Methods:Based on literature review,expert discussions,the questionnaire of nurses’ cognitive status and knowledge requirementwas formed.In 6 hospitals of Sichuan,questionnaire survey was conducted by 447 nurses.SPSS 17.0 statistical software was used for data statistical analysis,to comprehend the current situation of the knowledge in nurses’ grief counseling.And find out problems and things needs improvement.Based on the findings,using the Delphi expert consulting method,selecting relevant experts to repeatedly revise the preliminary drafted knowledge system,finally,establish the final knowledge system of the grief counseling course for nurses’ training.Results:(1)The questionnaire of nurses’ cognitive status and knowledge requirement has good reliability and validity.(2)According to the questionnaire of nurses’ cognitive status in grief counseling,the points of nurses’ grief counseling attitude index were >3.5,showing that the nurses had positive attitude towards grief counseling.But skill score based on self-evaluation was about 2.41,showing poor level of skill.Meanwhile,the correct rate of knowledge in grief counseling was only 52%,showing that nurses are lack of the knowledge of grief counseling and relevant training are badly in need.In addition,the survey also found that professional titles and departments are the main influencing factors of nurses’ attitude toward grief counseling.There was a positive correlation between the title and the nurses’ attitude toward grief counseling,and the attitude of the nurses in oncology department was more active.Professional title and seniority were positively correlated with nurses’ knowledge level.(3)According to the questionnaire of nurses’ requirement of grief counseling,Nurses have higher demand for grief counseling training,which has 3 first-grade index,11 second-grade index and 41 third-grade index,with average points of index being>3.5.The top three of second-grade index were treatment for special populations and events,grief counseling skills and grief counseling techniques.The top five of third-grade index were communication skills,listening Skill,transference and counter transference skills,the skills of evaluating the bereaved and skills for the event of losing their only child.Educational background,department,opportunities for contacting with bereaved families,gender,marital status were the main influencing factors for 11 second-grade index.Educational background and the opportunity of contacting bereaved families were positively correlated with the demand of nurse grief counseling.In tumor related departments,female,married nurses badly need more positive grief counseling.(4)Expert consultation was conducted two rounds,respectively,16 and 15 experts participating the first and second round of the expert consultation.Experts came from the field of nursing education,nursing research,nursing management and clinical psychology and psychiatric,with good representation and authority,with the authority coefficient being 0.85.After two rounds of consultation,the experts gradually reached a consensus.Combined with the experts’ suggestions,our research team revised the knowledge system of grief counseling training for nurses,including 3 first-grade index,10 second-grade index and 41 third-grade index.Conclusion: Using the method of questionnaire and Delphi expert consultation,our research team combined the needs of the learning objects,the requirements of the academic subject and nursing administration,and finally established the knowledge system of grief counseling training for nurses.The knowledge system is scientific and feasible,which can be used as the training content of nurse’s grief counseling.
