Objective :To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of sublingual immunotherapy(SLIT)for allergic rhinitis(AR).Methods :Eighty-five AR patients sensitive to house dust mites followed a SLIT schedule for eighteen months.Followed up and recorded the total nasal symptom scores, the physical signs scores and the quality of life scores before treatment, six months of treatment, and eighteen months of treatment. And observed clinical efficacy and adverse reactions during the administration period.Results:Seventy-seven patients completed eighteen months of SLIT.The total effective rate of treatment for eighteen months was 89.62%.The total nasal symptom scores:(8.51±2.34)points before treatment,(5.87±1.12)points for six months of treatment,and(3.66±1.14)points for eighteen months of treatment. The physical signs scores were:(2.45±0.67)points before treatment,(1.82±0.64)points for six months of treatment,and(1.29±0.46)points for eighteen months of treatment. The quality of life scores were(7.86±3.84)points before treatment,(3.70±1.82)points for six months of treatment,and(2.17±1.74)points for eighteen months of treatment. The scores were significantly lower after treatment for six months than those before treatment, and continued to decline after eighteen months of treatment. The difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).There was no significant difference in the improvement of symptoms and signs between the young and old age groups(P >0.05).The improvement of the quality of life was better in the older age group than in the young age group, with a significant difference(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the improvement of symptomsand signs between the mild group and the moderate-severe group(P >0.05).The improvement of the quality of life in the moderate-severe group was better than that in the mild group. The difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).Among the seventy-seven patients, four people(5.2%)had local adverse reactions and no systemic adverse events occurred. Conclusion:SLIT was effective and safe. And its efficacy was not affected by the age of the patient and the severity of the disease. It can significantly improve the quality of life of patients.
