Colorectal cancer is a common malignant tumor.Colorectal cancer liver metastases(CRLM)are the main factors influencing the prognosis of colorectal cancer.Operation for liver metastases is the normal choose of the resectable CRLM,while most of patients are initially unresectable limited the operational rate.Conventional therapy need to be involved to strive for the possibilities of completely control of desease, with systemic chemotherapy or the combination of chemotherapy and molecule-targeted drugs for the common situation, recommendated by the national clinic practice guide-line.The response rate and operational rate of CRLM patients has been arised by the creative implement of FOLFOXIRI and the combination of FOLFOXIRI/FOLFOX/FOLFIRI and molecule-targeted therapy. However, almost 60%of unresectable CRLM can still not be resected completely after conventional therapy especially by pure chemotherapy, owing to inherent resistant or adverse reaction.Additional local control based on the systemic therapy is part of the research subjects to unresectable CRLM.Radiofrequency ablation(RFA)applied to the treatment of patients with CRLM was gradually increased and its status in the comprehensive treatment of patients with CRLM increasingly improved.Compared to pure chemotherapy,it is easier to achieve good therapeutic effect by the combination of systemic chemotherapy and application of local therapies, with RFA be one of them.In case of the patent benefit of the project,EORTC 40004 performed as the first RCT compared the therapeutic effect of pure chemotherapy and the combination of systemic chemotherapy and RFA.While finally the benefit of the combination be proved by EORTC 40004,there’s still a hot topic about the project and the study itself,in order to explore how to combine RFA with conventional chemotherapy.
