The Construction Of Ontology-based Chinese Medicine Knowledge Base

The research on ontology-based Chinese medicine knowledge base is a preceding issue in medical informatics.As the development of the information technology,the degree of informationization in the field of medicine is increasing continually.In China,the informationization in the field of medicine is in the transformation stage from “digital management” to “digital medical treatment”,which needs to solve the description and storage of knowledge in computers.Ontology is being used more and more in knowledge modeling.Most of the Chinese medicine knowledge base is in the form of relation model,which cannot satisfy the practical situation.Meanwhile,some researches in medical decision support require a complete and structured knowledge base,so it is important and meaningful to build the ontology-based Chinese medicine knowledge base.The researches of ontology-based medicine knowledge base in China are still in the starting stage,rather than that in developed contries with SNOMED-CT and UMLS.A complete ontology-based Chinese medicine knowledge base and its knowledge management system is the goal of this research.In building the knowledge base,ontology and related techniques was studied first,especially the transformation between ontology models and relation models,which is able to solve the inefficiency of ontology when facing large amount of data.The knowledge base is based on SNOMED-CT,UMLS and other foreign medical database,whose structure was optimized into relation model and terms were translated by means of term matching.The medical ontology model has been built on Protégé.The knowledge management system was then developed,which provides interface for browsing and editoring and this system will be put into use in medicine institutes pratically.The automatic diagnosis by means of knowledge automatic classification was explored,which is based on the ontology reasoning system.
