Objective: To investigate the related factors of ocular damage in visual display terminal syndrome by investigating indices of uncorrected vision,intraocular pressure,refraction,break-up time of tear film,tear meniscus height,ocular surface bacteria,near point of convergence,amplitude of accommodation,distant lateral phoria,distant vertical phoria,near lateral phoria,near vertical phoria,accommodation convergence/accommodation,negative relative adjustment,positive relative accommodation,stereoscopic acuity,OSDI scores and the period of illness.Methods: 20 patients with VDT syndrome(as the case group)and 24 patients that were about to undergo excimer laser refractive surgery(as the control group)in the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from September 2017 to January 2018 were enrolled in this case control study.Basic inquiry(name,gender,age,history of present illness,previous history,etc.),routine examinations of ophthalmology(including uncorrected vision,intraocular pressure,anterior segment,fundus),refractive examination,ocular surface bacteria examination,tear film examination,visual function examination(including near point of convergence,amplitude of accommodation,distant lateral phoria,distant vertical phoria,near lateral phoria,near vertical phoria,accommodation convergence/accommodation,negative relative adjustment,positive relative accommodation,stereoscopic acuity),OSDI test were taken for the patients.Compare the observed indexes to observe whether there were differences between the two groups and analyze whether there were correlations between some of the indices.Results: 1.There was no difference in gender and age distribution between the two groups.2.The results of bacterial culture in both groups were positive for aerobic culture and negative for anaerobic culture.However,the aerobic culture strains in the two groups were different,so they were differentiated and analyzed according to where they were normal flora or pathogenic bacteria.The distribution of bacterial species of the two groups was different(P=0.015).3.There was no difference in uncorrected vision,intraocular pressure,refraction,near point of convergence,amplitude of accommodation,distant lateral phoria,distant vertical phoria,near lateral phoria,near vertical phoria,accommodation convergence/accommodation,negative relative adjustment,positive relative accommodation,stereoscopic acuity between the two groups(all P>0.05).There was a statistical difference in break-up time of tear film,tear meniscus height,OSDI scores between the two groups(all P<0.05).4.In the case group,the OSDI score was negatively correlated with negative relative adjustment(r=-0.632,P=0.004),and was uncorrected with other indices.On the other hand,the period of illness was uncorrected with other indices.Conclusions: 1.Patients with VDT syndrome were more likely to have pathogenic bacteria in ocular surface compared with normal.The quality of tear film were worse than that of normal.2.The OSDI score of patients with VDT syndrome was significantly higher than that of the normal.In the case group,the higher the OSDI score was,the more obvious the discomfort would be.
