Neuroblastoma Treatment Chinese Citizens:A Clinical,Social And Human Analysis On Domestic And Foreign Available Healthcare

In facing the new reality of the increasing demand of families coming from the People's Republic of China to Sant Joan de Deu(SJD)pediatric hospital located in Barcelona seeking for neuroblastoma(NB)treatment,the present thesis assesses what are the lacks of the treatment availability in China compared to European standards,taking SJD as a reference for comparison.Neuroblastoma stands as the most common type of pediatric cancer with a solid tumour,to which the Chinese healthcare system provides only essential treatments with overloaded facilities and professionals at the most important hospitals of the big cities of the country(principally Beijing and Shanghai),which are the major recepients of the demand for such a complicated disease.After a review of the History of the Chinese healthcare system,the current state of the system is assessed through empirical methodology,putting into perspective the availability of treatment for this specific disease.The data for quantitative analysis is gathered through a survey made with close-ended questions to the 22 Chinese families that have arrived to the facilities of SJD in Barcelona and qualitative data is gathered through 4 in-depth interviews to some of said families.The result is a comprehensive overview of the situation and the difficulties that the families have to overcome,along with the proposal of the harmonization and standardization of the treatments in smaller provinces to provide more accessible and comprehensive treatment that does not jeopardize the economic situation of the families and accelerates the steps of the treatment in order to give the fastest and best response possible in front of a disease to which the time of response can be crucial to determine the survival of the patients.
