AIM:To disscuss the efficacy and safety of Endoscopic papillary balloon dilatation(EPBD)and Endoscopic Sphincterotomy in the treatment of common bile duct calculi.METHODS:We retrospectively analyzed the patients who underwent endoscopic common bile duct extraction from January 2010 to December 2015 in the Department of Gastroenterology,Weihai Municipal Hospital.According to the operation methods, the patients were divided into Endoscopic Sphincterotomy and Endoscopic Papillary Balloon Dilatation groups,There was no statistically significant difference in age between the two groups. The differences in the success rate of stone removal, the overall incidence of recent complications and the morbidity of complications were compared between the two groups.RESULTS:One hundred and eighty six patients were included in the study.EST 88 cases,The successful rate of EST for removal of common bile duct stones was 97.7%and the one successful 86 case.EPBD 98 cases,The successful rate of EPBD for removal of common bile duct stones was 96.9%and the one successful 95 case.Total incidence of early postoperative complications respectively for 19 cases(21.6%)and 25 cases(25.5%).Postoperative incidence of high blood amylase, respectively for 14 cases(15.9%)and 20 cases(20.4%).Postoperative incidence of acute pancreatitis respectively for 2 cases(2.3%)and 5 cases(5.1%).There were 2(2.3%)postoperative hemorrhage cases and 1(1.1%)postoperative gastrointestinal perforation case in EST group. There was no postoperative hemorrhage cases and postoperative gastrointestinal perforation case in EPBD group. There was no postoperative biliary infection in two groups.CONCLUSION:EST and EPBD,the two groups had the same therapeutic effect, the success rate of stone-free was similar, the overall incidence of early complications was similar, but postoperative pancreatitis EPBD group was higher than EST group, hemorrhage and perforation in the EST group.
