Secondary Metabolites Of Two Liverworts And Their Biological Activities

Bryophytes are taxonomically placed between the algae and the pteridophytes,divided into three classes,liverworts(Hepaticae),mosses(Musci)and hornworts(Anthocerotae).Among the bryophytes,liverworts,as a great donor of bioactive secondary metabolites,are rich in terpenoids,aromatic compounds and acetogenins.Various secondary metabolites displayed intriguing biological activities such as antifungal,cytotoxic,andantioxidant properties,insect antifeedant,so liverworts are great sources for bioactive natural products.In the second chapter of this paper,we introduced the secondary metabolites and biological activity of Radula amoena Herzog.We got twenty-three compounds from Chinese liverwort R.amoena,including six previously undescribed prenyl bibenzyls.The cytotoxic activities against the human cancer cell lines HepG-2,SMMC-7721 and human non-small cell lung cancer A549 of the selected compounds were evaluated using the MTT assay,with adriamycin as a positive control.As a result,the part of these compounds displayed moderate cytotoxic activities.In the third chapter of this paper,we introduced the secondary metabolites and biological activity of Diplophyllum apiculatum(A.Evans)Stephani.We got three previously undescribed clerodane-type diterpenoids,together with five known compounds,their structures were determined on the basis of analysis of MS and NMR spectroscopic data,single-crystal X-ray diffraction and electronic circular dichroism calculations.All the isolated compounds have been tested for cytotoxic activity against three human cancer cell lines(A549,DU145 and PC-3)by MTT assay with adriamycin used as a positive control.Moreover,they were evaluated for antifungal activities against Candida albicans SC5314(the wild-type strain)and DSY654(the Cdrl,Cdr2 efflux pumps deficient strain),and fluconazole served as the positive antifungal agent.Ultimately,they were found no antifungal and anticancer effects in the biotest in vitros.
