The Relationship Between Gender Role,Professional Interests And Professional Commitment Of Intern Nurses

Objective:To investigate the professional commitment of the intern nurses and explore the relationship between gender roles,Professional interests and professional commitment of intern nurses.This will provide Promote intern nurses to have a comprehensive analysis of their personality traits,interests,and nursing work before going to work,in order to make a correct career choice or adapt to nursing work as soon as possible.It also provides a new view for nursing colleges and hospitals to improve the professional commitment level of the intern nurses.Methods:Using the method of convenient sampling,597 undergraduate intern nurses who were internships in a third-grade hospital in Jinan from July 2017 to May 2018 were selected as subjects,applying the tools of Chinese College Students’Sex-Role Inventory(CSRI-50),College Students’Professional Interests Questionnaire,College Students’professional Commitment Scales.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 statistical software.The statistical methods mainly include:descriptive analysis,independent sample t test,chi-square test,ANOVA,Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression analysis.Results:1.The professional commitment of intern nurses is 96.16±14.08,and the standardization of each item is 3.56±0.52.The scores of the four dimensions from high to low are:normative commitment(4.06±0.58),emotional commitment(3.57±0.62),ideal commitment(3.39±0.67),ideal commitment(3.39±0.67),and the continuance commitment(3.33±0.51).2.Independent sample t-test and analysis of variance showed that there was a difference in the professional commitment of the intern nurses in terms of academic qualifications,whether the majors were transferred,whether they had served as student cadres,and whether they had received scholarships,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3.ANOVA showed that there were significant differences in the professional commitment total scores and dimensions in different gender role types(P<0.001).The professional commitment of the androgynous intern nurses is at the highest level.Judging from the scoring of each dimension,the androgynous intern nurses have the highest scores on emotional commitment,ideal commitment,and normative commitment,while feminization is at the highest level in continuing commitment.4.Pearson correlation analysis between the professional commitment level and the type of professional interests,the results show that continuance commitment is not related to the natural professional interest.Beside this,there is a positive correlation between each dimension(P<0.05).5.The hierarchical regression analysis of the total level of professional commitment of the Intern nurses shows that the academic qualifications of the intern nurses(P<0.01),whether they have served as student cadres(P<0.05),and the gender roles of the intern nurses(P<0.05),regular professional interest(P<0.01)have a predictive effect on the overall level of professional commitment of the Intern nurses.6.The results of ANOVA between gender roles and professional interests of the intern nurses showed that there were significant differences in the types of professional interests among the different gender role types(P<0.001).The androgynous intern nurses scored the highest in the research,art and social professional interests;the masculine intern nurses scored the highest in the business and natural professional interests;the feminine intern nurses scores are at the highest level on regular professional interest.Conclusions:1.The professional commitment level of the intern nurse is at the upper middle level,the highest is the normative commitment,and the lowest is the continuance commitment;2.There is no significant difference in the level of professional commitment between different gender intern nurses,but there are significant differences in the types of gender roles.Overall,the professional commitment of the androgynous intern nurses are at the best level,followed by feminization,the worst is masculine or undifferentiated intern nurses;3.The overall level of professional commitment of the intern nurses is positively related to professional interests.The better the professional interest of the intern nurses,the higher the overall level of professional commitment;4.Intern nurses of different gender roles have significant differences in various dimensions of professional interests.Overall,the professional interests status of the androgynous intern nurses are the best,and the professional interests status of the undifferentiated intern nurses are the lowest;5.The academic qualifications of the intern nurses,whether they have served as student cadres,the gender roles of the nurses and the regular professional interest have a significant predictive effect on the overall level of professional commitment of the nurse practitioners..
