ObjectivesTo explore the characteristics of eating behaviors,to assess associations of actual nutritional status with guardian-evaluated nutrition status and eating behaviors during preschool children. So as to provide the basic information of effective strategies of eating behaviors for prevention.MethodsA total of 2 395 preschool children from Huangshan City of Anhui province was assessed by their guardian with a self-administered questionnaire, including the preschool children’s demographics,guardian-evaluated nutrition status. The Children’s Eating Behavior Questionnaire(CEBQ)was used to assessment children’s eating behaviors. The physical development and hemoglobin detection of preschool children were examined by child health practitioner.ResultsThe prevalence rates of less weight, overweight, obesity and anemia were 6.5%,6.3%,5.2% and 11.4%,respectively.The results indicated that the gender, age, delivery pattern, parental age at delivery, parental education, feeding patterns during the first 6 six months and guardian-evaluated movements of preschool children were significantly associated with eating behaviors(P<0.05),while the relationships between family status and main guardian before 3 years and eating behaviors have no significant(P > 0.05).Moreover,in the less weight group, the scores of SR(7.63±2.91),SE(7.16±3.00),and EU(5.45±2.84)were higher than those in the overweight and obesity group, while the scores of FR(4.83±3.26)and EF(6.73±3.52)were less(P<0.05).Additionally,the consistency rate of guardian-evaluated nutrition status and actual nutrition status was 58.7% in preschool children, and the results of internal consistency showed that the Kappa value was 0.198(P<0.001).The interaction effects of actual nutrition status and guardian-evaluated nutrition status on eating behaviors among preschool children shown that in normal nutritional status group, the preschool children who have higher scores of SR(8.16±3.01),SE(7.18±2.87),and EU(5.83±2.98)in thinner group, higher score of FR(7.79±4.05)and EF(8.60±4.45)in fatter group, and higher score of FU(8.84±3.20)and DD(3.65±3.00)in normal group(P<0.05).ConclusionThese findings suggest a strong relationship between eating behavior and children’s nutrition status in preschool children. The consistency between guardian-evaluated nutrition and actual nutrition status is poor. The guardian-evaluated nutrition status may influence the eating behaviors of preschool children.
