Objective: This study aims to observe the relationship between the surface EMG detection results and evaluation results of peripheral facial paralysis of patients via analyzing the surface EMG detection results and evaluation of the relevant scale results of peripheral facial paralysis in three stages in the development of disease(acute phase, stationary phase and the recovery phase).Furthermore,we would like to explore the application value of surface electromyography in the evaluation of peripheral facial paralysis,to provide clinical basis for more extensive clinical application of surface electromyography.Method: Through the self-contrast research method,we made a collection of 36 cases of peripheral facial paralysis, which were the first time to get with this disease within 7 days, and subject to our inclusion criteria. After entering the group,we gave all the subjects the same acupuncture treatment. In the three stages of disease development(acute phase, stationary phase and recovery phase),House-Brackmann scale evaluation and Yang Wanzhang grading scale and surface electromyography were performed simultaneously. Finally, the evaluation results were analyzed by statistical methods to elucidate the effectiveness of surface electromyography evaluation, and to prove the clinical application value of peripheral facial paralysis evaluation. Results: After three kinds of evaluation methods(Pearsonn,Spearman,Kendall)have been performed in the experiment, the statistical analysis of the data at the acute stage illustrates that the surface electromyogram evaluation results and H-B scale evaluation results are strongly related, and the Spearman coefficient in acute phase lift the eyebrow ?=0.448,whistling ?=0.518,exposed teeth ?=0.746;stationary phase:lift the eyebrow ?=0.657,whistling ?=0.841,exposed teeth ?=0.636;recovery phase: R=O.753,R=1,P<0.05,the evaluation results in stationary period and the recovery period of the three methods showed a high correlation. Conclusions: The experimental results indicate that the surface EMG detection provide a more objective metric for clinical diagnosis and evaluation of peripheral facial paralysis, showing great advantages compared with the traditional evaluation scale.
