Background Prenatal depression is a mental health disorder that occurs during pregnancy. Its main clinical manifestations are persistent depression and sadness.During pregnancy, the body metabolism of women will undergo significant changes, resulting in different stress responses. Some can not timely adjust the physical and psychological status of pregnant women, but their own serious instability, prone to emotional disorders.Since the 1980s,more and more epidemiologists have begun to study the problem of prenatal depression. In recent years, studies in different continental countries have clearly shown that the rate of prenatal depression remains high, about 10 to 20%.Objective To explore the relationship between antenatal depression and birth weight of offspring, and to analyze the effect of antenatal depression on feeding style, and to study the relationship between depression in late pregnancy and infant temperament development,so as to provide scientific basis for preventing or timely discovering antenatal depression, promoting maternal physical and psychological health, and promoting infant temperament development. Methods A face-to-face survey was conducted among pregnant women undergoing maternity examination in Hefei Maternal and Child Health Hospital by random sampling.Demographic information was obtained by self-made questionnaire.Depression was screened by CES-D in the center of epidemiology. The delivery outcome was obtained after delivery. After 6 months of postpartum follow-up,breastfeeding and temperament questionnaire were conducted.SPSS20.0was used to analyze the data. The correlation between prenatal depression and birth weight, breastfeeding and infant temperament development was analyzed by Maple?~2 test, covariance analysis, linear regression model and logistic regression model. Results There were 741 pregnant women and infants who were eventually included in the statistical analysis.Covariance analysis was used to analyze the association between gestational depression and birth weight, but the results showed no statistical significance. In addition,Logistic regression analysis of abnormal birth weight revealed that pregnant women with prenatal depression had a 2.409-fold risk of delivering offspring with abnormal birth weight(P<0.05)compared with non-depressed women, and the risk remained 2.828-fold after controlling for the associated confounding factors(P<0.01).This study also analyzed the relationship between gestational depression and feeding style. The results showed that gestational depression had an effect on the feeding style of 2 months and 4 months after delivery. After controlling for confounding factors, the results of multivariate analysis of depression and feeding patterns during pregnancy showed that the breastfeeding rate decreased by 58.3%(P<0.01).Compared with the non-depression group, the proportion of low age,low education, childbirth, and artificial feeding at 4 months postpartum was significantly higher in the depressed group than in the no depression group. After controlling for potential confounding factors, the infants of the mothers in the depressed group had significantly higher scores in the dimensions of temperament, mood, distraction, and response thresholds at 6 months than infants without mothers with depression. The differences were statistically significant.Significance(P<0.05).Conclusions The results of this study showed that gestational depression had no statistically significant effect on the birth weight of offspring, but antenatal depression increased the risk of offspring with abnormal birth weight, also had an impact on feeding patterns, significantly reducing the breastfeeding rate at 4 months after delivery. In addition,it is also found that there is an independent correlation between depression and mood development in late pregnancy.
