Research On Barefoot Doctors And Traditional Chinese Medicine(1965-1985)

Barefoot doctors have always existed as the image "half agriculture and half medicine"primary medical hygienists in the rural areas,and they shouldered the mission to solve the shortage of doctors and medicines in rural areas.During the process of the Chinese herbal medicine movement,these primary medical hygienists participated were highly praised and trusted by rural patients and international organizations.The barefoot doctors group with the scale of several millions was to some extent a concentrated reflection of the mass movement,which had a significant social effect on disease prevention,cooperative medical treatment and public health in rural areas at that time.In the early period after the founding of PRC,especially after the agricultural cooperation,the integration of the public health idea and the overlapping mass movement became the main characteristics of medical discourse at that time.In fact,in a country with of 500 million rural population,there were traditional roving doctors,witch doctors(religion),medical missionaries and professional medical health practitioners in the world of village medicine,various healers have different levels of professional skill.In order to effectively guarantee the farmers' health life,authorities concerned draw lessons from the previous rural health construction,union clinics,striving to build a three-tier of medical network,to implement the cooperative medical care system,barefoot doctors,rural medical system have changed dramatically.From the mainstream ideology in Collectivization period,we can see that the post-Mao China attached great importance to the inheritance and development of traditional medicine,put forward the concept of "New Medicine",and carried out the superincumbent Chinese herbal medicine movement.The movement of barefoot doctors and Chinese herbal medicine experienced a historical track from rise,development to decline.Although experts from WHO and other international organizations once called it "a model for developing countries to solve rural medical problems",the products of special political discourse were defective after all,and people should view the mass medical movement in the period of cooperative medical treatment from the overall perspective of development.In this study,barefoot doctors and traditional medicine were studied from the perspective of medical social history,and the research mainly combined with field investigation and other methods to focus the barefoot doctors in time and spatial dimension.Treating the medical practice of barefoot doctors and the movement of Chinese herbal medicine as the breakthrough point,and this dissertation can be divided into cooperative medical care period,transitional period,the new rural cooperative medical care period so as to understand the barefoot doctors practicing medicine mode and structural social relationship more accurately.At the same time,the article is also required to understand the barefoot doctors' subtle relationship with the traditional Chinese medicine and analyze barefoot doctors' medical effects on rural public health and show the real grassroots medical system obj ectively.With the constant evolution of the rural medical system,we can see that great changes brought by medical politics to the medical society,which reflects the national unremitting efforts to achieve medical fairness.Up to now,rural areas are in an important period of strategic opportunities for Healthy China and Rural Revitalization.Village doctors are an important force in the construction of hierarchical diagnosis and treatment,which is of great significance to the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese medicine.However,the grass-roots medical and health undertakings are still facing severe challenges,one of which is that the grass-roots problems of village doctors are always being mediated in the society.In this case,the previous model of barefoot doctors is well worth our reflecting as a reference.
