Objective : To investigate the expression of Stanniocalcin 2(STC2)and androgen receptor(AR)in breast cancer tissues, and the correlation between AR and STC2 with the clinicopathological features and prognosis of breast cancer. Methods:Immunohistochemical of En Vision two-step staining was used to examine the expression of STC2 and AR in 77 cases of invasive carcinoma of no special type(NST)and 40 cases of adjacent tissues of the tumor, respectively. The relationships of STC2 and AR expressions with clinicopathologic factors were measured through the chi-square test. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze survival status and the Cox regression model was used to multivariate analysis.Results:(1)In the experimental group, the positive rate of AR was 53.2%(41/77),and the positive rate of STC2 was 64.9%(50/77).The positive rate of both in the control group was lower, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001,P<0.001).(2)The expressions of AR and STC2 in NST were correlated with ER status,PR status and p TNM stage of tumor tissues, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The expression of AR and STC2 was not related to the age,HER-2status,Ki-67 proliferation index of tumor tissues, menopausal status, lymph node metastasis, vessel invasion, and histological grade(P>0.05).(3)The expression of AR and STC2 in NST was positively correlated, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001,r=0.432).In adjacent tissues of the tumor, the expression of AR was also positively correlated with the expression of STC2,and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.001,r=0.758).(4)In NST,no death cases were followed in the AR-positive group, and survival analysis could not be compared. The overall survival(OS)analysis showed the STC2-positive group was better than the negative group, but the difference was not statistically significant(P=0.099).Survival analysis showed that both positive group had a better prognosis, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.023).In addition, tumors with a diameter of ?5 cm had a better prognosis than those with a tumor diameter of >5cm,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001).The non-vessel invasion group had a better prognosis than the presence of vessel invasion group, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.015).The p TNM stage I and II groups had a better prognosis than the stage III group, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.016).(5)Multivariate analysis showed that AR and STC2 were independent prognostic factors of patients with NST(P>0.05).Conclusion:STC2 and AR have high level of expressions in breast cancer tissues, and their expressions are positively correlated. It suggests that AR and STC2 are associated with the progression of breast cancer. The overall survival(OS)analysis results suggest that a joint detection of AR and STC2 can help to predict the prognosis of breast cancer patients. They can be novel targets for the prognosis and therapy of breast cancer.
